Mercedes 300D price

What should be the price of merc 1981 300D. It is W123 type and left hand drive, diesel 5 cylinder, automatic transmission. Car is very well kept and clean.

i'd offer 3 lacks since i doubt the car will be in good condition (my standards), however most peopel woudl be happy to pay 4 lacks,.. which is also fine since the 300D engine (non turbo) is the best engine MB ever made in terms of service life.

I would slightly disagree with Storm as its LHD the most you should offer is 3.5 since you can get a RHD in 4-4.25 Lacs.

Seller is asking 300k and I would say that upto my limited knowledge this car is very much in original condition from inside. Seats seems to be of leather. Out side is also quite nice.

Should the headlights be round or square in this model?

What things one should check in this car?
How much costly are the parts and maintenance?
Although I am not very much concrned with resale at this time but are these models of merc cars & being LHD, a difficult item to sell, incase you need money?

I would appreciate more help on these questions.

though storm is a better xpert on merc,but in my opinion LHDs r always hard to buy and as well as sell,coz less ppl r inclined to drive them ,
it shud come with round shape headlamps,since its a 123 series,parts r available in pindi and in lahore easily and almost at the price of cultus.
owner's demand is reaonable if car is in gud condition up to the standrads of storm at least.
rest is ur choice
btw try to find RHD if u can rather find two ,one for me as well

headlights shoudl be round ones in an 81

Most important things to check is the hoses (vaccume etc) and rust at the bases of the doors and the mud guards. Also you shoudl checkto see that all the chrome is there and that the electrics work.

Resale of LHD cars is always low but since it is an original Diesel mercedes it shoudln't be a major problem.

Seats should be MB tex (a type of vinyl) not leather

Are the replacement hoses hard to find or very costly?

What about auto-tranny? Could a 25 years old car's auto-transmission be reliable? What are the prospects of repairing faulty tranny?

hoses are very easy to replace and find and are not too expensive at all, just very time consuming.

As for the auto box, if it is well maintained and not thrashed alot it shoudl still be running 100% as older MB autos are considered bullet proof. Worst case scenario you can always have it rebuilt since alot of the parts for these cars are now coming from iran so they are pretty cheap to source.

I think i have seen the car which you are mentioning. I saw it at a showroom near Jinnah Hospital. Correct me if i am wrong. If it is the same car i think it is in a good condition. The interior and exterior are in good shape. If you can get it in 300K i think it is very good value for money.
