Dear members.
I am planning to upgrade my ride fron honda civic reborn to mercedes c200. Kindly guide about how to check the car. Moreover, this car is going to be my daily driven vehicle. Therefore please inform about running cost maintainencr issues parts availability. Your help is required as i have not owned mb before.

you are trying to compare apples and oranges, the fact is there is a vast difference in every aspect of ownership between the above mentioned cars, budget is irrrelevant if you are going to buy a Mercedes in this era you must bet prepared to spend at least 2-4 lacs minimum in getting it in good shape to be daily driven, it will be a 12 year old car that too if maintained locally it would be naive to expect to just buy and drive if buying a w203 get it inspected from shahanwaz before buying (…

Honda Civic and C200 are both compact cars so it's not much of an upgrade unless...

Bragging Rights are high up there in your list of agendas in which case; I seek your forgiveness.

Anyhow; maintaining a Mercedes is going to cost you a hell lot more than a Civic; especially if the car is a decade (or more) old. Mercedes, BMW and Audi aren't exactly known for their reliability and cheap as chips maintenance, you know?

A used 8-10 year old C200 in decent condition goes for about 3 millions. And I'd rather have a 2-3 year old Prius than a decade old Mercedes that's going to spend the majority of its lifetime in a garage!

And did I mention that Prius is way more reliable, way more spacious (It's a mid-size sedan) and returns fantastic fuel economy that's comparable to my 2-Stroke 100cc Yamaha?

Thank you all for your kind guidance. I am planning to buy 2004 model c200 kompressor (imported in 2008). Got it checked from shahnawaz today.
They have informed me that car needs replacement of suspension parts worth rs. 20000 and left cam sensor is not working.
Rest all are small issues like light bulbs not working etc.
I am getting a very good price on the car. Owner is moving abroad and he has demanded 1.5 million final.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind.

While I understand that your heart is yearning to own a Mercedes; I can't blame you but its not a bright idea to make big decisions on sudden impulses.

What you're referring to as 'small' issues may not be all that small. Why do you think the owner is selling the car as it is without addressing the minor issues first?

No one in Pakistan is THAT foolish; moving abroad or not! If it was THAT simple then he'd have fixed all the minor issues and have demanded 2+ millions!

Sleep on it. Do some research on used, decade old Mercedes (Which you clearly haven't) and try to look at things from the seller's perspective.

Lastly; it's your car and your money and all I'm trying to accomplish here is save you a lot of headache.

There are many threads on PWs on mercedes maintaince and problems i suggest you read them first.......a clean c200 prefacelift is still a great buy ......there are many owners on pw and can guide you.....i will just say if you are a salaried person with a limited budget stay away......benz is NOT reliable especially of this era...that is why it is called the dark era for mercedes....members like @capsat @Xulfiqar @arzaam.bhatti @fahad can guide you better..

I think you should buy it because a 2004 model is rightly priced at 1.5 million. Its not cheap or good deal that is what a 2004 is worth in my eyes considering 2008/9 ones sell around 2.5-3 million

What options does one have in 1.5 million? 20010-12 corollas and some jdm hatch.

Finally with a heavy heart i changed my decision to buy c200 kompressor and instead bought myself honda civic oriel pros 2015 with only 37k on the odo.
I am currently satisfied as friend of mine got an estimate on 1 lac 95 thousand on that c200. Happy with my choice for now.
