Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG voted Mid-East's best 'Luxury SUV'
The ML 63 AMG, the most powerful off-roader produced by Mercedes-Benz, has beaten off strong competition, including the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, to win the best 'Luxury SUV' of the year 2006 awarded by Autocar Middle East, a leading motoring magazine in the region.
The Autocar editorial team and guest judges spent three days sifting through a field of heavyweight contenders and, in addition to extensive on-road testing for everday driveability and laps of the Dubai Autodrome to seek check performance in a controlled environment, the criteria also included an assessment of functionality, build quality, spaciousness as well as equipment.
The ML 63 AMG was introduced into the Middle East market in the third quarter of this year. Under the bonnet is a new 6.3-litre V8 engine which unleashes a massive 510 hp at 6800 rpm and a maximum torque of 630 newton metres at 5200 rpm powering the vehicle from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds.
'The ML 63 AMG offers powerful performance that excites like no other off-roader in its segment,' said Johannes Fritz, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes Car Group, Middle East. 'The Mercedes-Benz ML started the luxury SUV trend nearly 10 years ago and despite strong competition this award recognises that we still lead the field.'
