Mercedes C180 2008 or Civic Prosmatec 2015?

Hey Guys,

Hope you're well.

I wanted your expert opinion whether to purchase a 2015 Civic or a Mercedes C180 2008 Model.

Reasons:
1. All civics available for the year which i checked have crossed the 50,000 KM mark and after that milestone require more maintenance (has been my experience with my previous 2 civics).
2. No other car available within the 2.5 million budget which drives as beautifully as a Merc / Civic. I need a large sedan, not a dinky, so Suzuki and smaller budget cars are off the discussion.

However, i have never purchased a European car before and do not have any idea of maintenance, monthly expenses, etc.

What do you think?

I would not suggest going for an old model mercedes since it will be even more expensive to maintain as it ages. You would be better of with the Civic, 50k Mileage for a civic is very less as it can last a lot longer than that provided it was properly maintained.

However, if maintenance is your primary concern then you should go for a corolla as they are cheaper to maintain and can tolerate even more abuse. Likewise it all comes down to personal preference.

You’re willing to avoid buying a Civic with 50k kms when a 2008 Merc will be drilling a hole in your pocket. Europeans cars are notorious for being unreliable. A Civic with 50k km would still outlast it in terms of reliability. That's just my opinion.

if the mercedes has maintenance history available from the owner and ownership papers are in order. i'd suggest bargain the deal and take it.

if it is a botched up ustafified tin shed mechanic screwed up, walk away and select a honda of your choice. @babarhyd

Maintaining an old merc will be an expensive affair as compaired to civic. I would suggest you to look for a clean civic

Clean merc with maintanence history would be a better choice . Brand new parts are easily available but expensive . Again comfort and class comes with a price . Both of the cars you mentioned are totaly of different class . You should decide what you want . If you want a daily commute vehicle then go for Civic .

yes about the drive part i agree with you both cars are the best in their class when it comes to drive feel and refinement. I will tell you to avoid the 2008 mercedes as the thing is as these things age they become endless moneypits. on the otherhand civic is a reliable car and will last a lifetime without any major repairs so i would suggest you to go for civic.

Brother there is no comparison between a Mercedes Benz and Civic. Both are miles apart.

If you want a luxurious car, luxurious drive, etc. (but with compromise on fuel efficiency, luxury comes at some cost), go for Mercedes matching your budget, however, ensure that car is in perfect condition, has maintenance history available, and everything (parts, sensors, different functions, etc.) is in working condition.

No doubt spare parts of Mercedes are comparatively expensive, but available (as compared to JDMs, which are sometimes difficult to source, and mostly from scrapyards only).

Civic is a "Market Ki Car", you will not face any issues; parts easily available (although costly, depending), authorised Honda dealerships available (but at the same time, ShahNawaz is also there for Mercedes), good resale, etc.

When it comes to handling, stability, there is no match between Mercedes and Japanese car manufacturers (provided we are comparing cars in the same league).

At the end, it all comes on personal choices, and if thinking of Mercedes being a never ending money pit, "Ghabrana nai hai" , its not like that!

Most Mercs listed in Pakwheels with their inspection sheets are pretty much botched up. Everything is leaking or broken. I wouldn't expect better from a ’08 Merc at this point.

Just stay away from the 2008 mercedes and go for civic dont look anyfurther, roadgrip,drivefeel of both cars is same along with roadgrip now obviously the mercedes will be loaded with fancy stiff but these things as they age become a piece of junk so stay away from it . civic will also have all these things and on the top of it will be reliable and last a long time.

pakwheels inspection & reports are just like sindh govt expense account reports. Never trust pakwheels inspections & reports. Crooks corrupt criminals are their inspectors for just 500 extra you can obtain report of your choice. @paladin @dayrider
