i had all these superstitions and fears about a mercedes till i bought .. it was 2006 c series and with very low mileage and well kept .. still i maintained everything on which i could get my hands on .. the first thing i bought was a torx toolkit and star key sets .. i purchased car in 2017 and sold in 2019 and plan to buy another one in near future .. here r few things which i purchased and still remember the price
- engine oil .. usual off the shelf .. only it had a capacity of 5.5 litres
- oil filter (genuine) .. not very expensive .. dont remember the price
- air filter -- 1200 or 1500 original german
- bulbs of all lights .. genuine 600 each
- a hose pipe probably linked to throttle body 2k or 2500 .. original
- coolant .. german blue color .. 4 litre for 4500
- alternator regulator .. kabli .. 2k
- kmph speedometer (original was in miles) .. 13k kabli
- battery .. ac delco .. 100AH .. MF for 22k (korean)
- wiper blades .. genuine bosch for 4500 cheap ones for as low as 1k also available
- gear oil .. usual price and usual capacity .. dont remember exactly
- bosch iridium plugs .. 5k (set of four plugs)
i would strongly recommend a mercedes because
- in these models u have every support on line .. every minor video .. part catalog .. circuit diagram .. etc
- its robust and once u change a part it gives a long service
- stability and drive of this car is far superior than any japanese
- parts r exactly same price in rupees as in dollars (converted to rupees) online
- there r no rattles in side
- there is less outside noise in comparison

precautions
- u must thoroughly check car before buying .. a well maintained car is required .. every maintainance has to be done .. not like corolla where u leave maintainance for years
- avoid workshops who charge extra on the name of mercedes .. difficult ask but u will soon learn
- u must have the skill and knowledge to at least know the fault and how it will be handled .. other wise scammers r out there and when u start paying extra u join the party who say mercedes costs more
- must read owner manual .. e.g, starting a mercedes on weak battery could kill ur Key (i guess its called FOB key) which is expensive
