Just love these 300 SL Roadsters.
What a beauty and what a pedigree. One of these was brought from Kabul and was in Islamabad in 1980, it was being exported to Italy by its owner. the car was cream color. Dont remember the mileage but couldnt be more than 20,000 kms, it was a jewel.

You will not believe the cars and many of them Mercedes which have been exported from Pakistan. will tell you all about these cars sometime. It is indeed a sad loss of our motoring heritage.
The 300 SL roadster was however in Pakistan on a temporary stay. It was on its way to Italy where most of the ex royal family of Afghanistan was in self exile after the revloution in Afghanistan in 1978.

No, dont mind- Pindi from 1967 and islamabad from 80-86. We lived on Nazimuddin Road, in F8/4, the house is now the Continental Guest house I think.
Another great car and Mercedes fan was the family that owned the Silver Grill Hotel.
I dont know if they are still there. The Wilsons- who only had the pharmacy in the 70,s had a 220S, black i think.
As for myself, I was the lucky guy then 15 years with the Bentley!! Many people dont remember me by name or face but connect with my granddads car.

WOW that 300SL is an absolute beauty. One of my all-time favourite cars, and no doubt a true ICON of the automotive world. Was that picture taken in London?

@Alvis: sad to know about the Afghan car being exported...but...if you go to the Vintage & Classic Car of Pakistan website, somewhere in their 'discovered' archive you'll find a photo of a hardtop 300SL (mid 50's) in pretty sad condition standing somewhere in Karachi. The photo looks to me to have been taken in the early '80s or so, and the SL appears to be standing unloved at some mechanics' forecourt.

Do you have any info on this car or its whereabouts today??!!

He has mentioned once that mashallah the silver grill ppl had good cars.
Wilson ppl i am very close to ill post their 220s pics up it is fully restored now and in maroon it is a 54 model with a 1956 plate. just beautifull
still have it.
And mashallah 15 yrs bentley wow that is lucky any pics and where did the car go.

wow good observation. However sadly this is rightly an old picture and the car is not a 300 but a 190SL which was bougt from the Kalat family by a PIA pilot named Captain Raqeeb.

Capt Raqeeb was a good friend of my uncle and I saw the car when it was bought from Kalat House in Gizri, Karachi. It had the round lights, but Capt Raqeeb bought these 300 SL Roadster lights and had them fitted out to give the car a modern look. I think it was 1975 or 1976.

His son also a pilot has now restored the car to its original condition in 1999 and it has its round lights. It did create the ILLUSION of a 300 SL from the front though. As far as I know he still has the car.

However there was a 300SL Gullwing in Pakistan--- story some other time!!!
