Asalam u alaikum everyone. I have been closely following this thread for a while as I was/am interested in purchasing the MG HS. This thread had been extremely informative and helpful for me for which i would like to thank everyone here

As i mentioned above I intend to buy the HS as i feel it the most bang for buck car in our current automotive market and not only that, of all the options present this one seems a far more better choice compared to it's competitors.

But lately with everything that has been happening the "under invoicing" issue, registration problems for owners and delivery fiasco all this has began to instill doubt in my mind that whether should i buy it or not considering the car's price and all. So i wanted your opinion and help regarding what should i do. Should i buy or not? And can anyone tell me what progress has been made regarding the FBRs under invoicing inquiry about MG.

about the car registr at excise/fbr issues almost everyone is as unsure as you are. Other than that you are right its the most bang for buck in our market along with the X70. what seprates them both is their looks and what you like better.

whatever you are buying just bear in mind that the mechanical/electricl logevity of all these cars will be a mixed bag, the japs do them the best but the pakijaps are a class below poor while assembling cars for the pak market.

No doubt the car is good, and if you like it definitely you should go for it.
Regarding the under invoicing issue I think it’ll continue as it is right now
People will receive their cars
And they will be registered too as I’ve seen 3 MG HS in Islamabad and all were registered

You could wait some more but the disadvantage would be that you may not receive a CBU vehicle, which we know right now is very well made.
Also the longer you wait the longer it will take to deliver

Even after booking if you change your mind you can always sell the car so it’s not like you’re stuck with it

Since mg hasn't really updated their customer end regarding the whole fbr thing and what that means, I asked around and apparently they're not being allowed to register cars in islamabad, the ones you see were probably previously registered or done through other means. I really wish for them to clarify what is happening as the hs surely beats its competitors in most features and is actually something exciting and I'd just like to own the car once delivery time comes without thinking about this stuff

MG HS is a very good car but MG management in pakistan is creating a lot of doubts with their weird subtle manners.

Firstly they are catering the mass bookers/investors/black marketers first and are beibg prioritized for obvious reason (50/50 on money split ).

Look at their official paper work , they cant even get their spellings right.

The registration doubts is stressing a lot of people who have booked their cars.

I dont understand if i try to import even a used 1500 cc , i will have to pay a duty of 18000 dollars

then how are MG getting away with paying far less duty than this even after 100 cbus? Is there any exemption to car manjfacturers here?

No one is against any one here in this thread. People are discussing the issues and operational mismanagement. Same people criticize Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and Honda as well.. no One is questioning the quality of the vehicle itself.

Please shed your doubts that if there is any personal vendetta.

Did some calculations on some assumptions and available data. I am not a financial expert. I am just doing a simple math. As per FBR tax code 8703.2290 , there is a Fix duty of $18590 on model from 1300 to 1500cc. Again this duty is for old and used car as per FBR. I am not sure how much it would be on new but I believe it would not be less. So i just used the same number. MG HS fits in it 1300-1500 bracket. Just duties/ taxes of $ 18,590 = PKR 2,965,850/- for green field status there is 5…

And this $18,590 is FIXED duty on 1300 to 1500cc regardless of the declared price.

That's where all the problem started when JW declared the $11632 as declared price and the full duty of 123.77% resulted in duty of $14300 per unit on that declared price..

while FBR says that minimum duty is 18500 on any imported vehicle for the same engine capacity.

So, basically, whatever is the declared price of any imported vehcile the table you shared is the minimum duty one has to pay on the import depending on engine size.

unless the issue is resolved at FBR all these vehicles will not be roadworthy without registration documents.

it appears that the vehicles are under_valued for customs declaration. However selling / booking for a premium price of OEM bottom dollar value elsewhere in the world. an edge they can exercise for special price, being manufacturing license holder also diminish for the fact that the assembly plant address in lahore does not have an infrastructure for automobiles. It is an electronics home appliances warehouse - assembling facility.

@fazalwahab11375 did basic plain maths which is self explanatory for action taken by FBR. ( misuse of automobile manufacturing license to import CBU with zero infrastructure on ground ). Rough days are ahead for the group.

Not an advocate for MG as merely the only interest I have is to get the car, have the it registered and use it. Never thought or expected issues like such can come up (No one wants it atleast especially salaried class individuals who've gradually saved over decades to have a vehicle in 5-6 million bracket. Anyhow, I did see a MG in Isb today bearing ICT number ASX-4** . Current ongoing series are ASX and ASY for capital.

The fixed duty is for used car imports which are imported as gifts without any monetary value.

As discussed with you earlier their is no fixed import value or duty for brand new car imports. Only the 123% of value declared by the importer or cross checked by invoices available.

A manufacturer or their agent in Pakistan determines the price at the time of manufacturing and duty is calculated accordingly.

Likewise if unknow unit of Mercedes is imported by a third party or xyz importer shahnawaz Pakistan comes and evaluates the value of the vehicle.

Yes, I know and that's why the duty on new vehicle in 1300 to 1500 is 123.77% and not the FIX duty and roughly calculated few posts above.

Honda Atlas imports Accords with declared value of $28000 and it is in the same engine class and gets 123.77% duty.

I believe you also mentioned that their is ban on import of vehicles for commercial sales..??? Please correct me if I am wrong.

I really hope MG setup a CKD plant and we see one by June 2021 as some people are predicting.

Yes, but thats used commercial. So people cannot import and sell used cars commercially on paper this is also to protect the local industry. But this is a very big industry and people have found loop holes in the system.

Brand new ones can be imported. After obtaining certain licenses.

They are only discouraged by an increased or higher duty. Ie CKD has 38% (not correct figure) Duties need to check figures.

Where as CBU has 123% Duty.

JW is misusing this like everything else is being mis used in Pakistan using loop holes.

Kia/suzuki/toyota/honda/Hyundai is assembling and selling for almost same price at which Jw is selling an imported vehicle. Then whats the use of setting up assembly and creating jobs. Trading is a easier option.

So either JW is selling Chuna or others are looting everyone.
