What’s the problem in selling cbus they are getting permission to sell them for now and if they make a nationwide network they will be very successful at least we will be getting quality cars compared to local junk

The issue is.

Govt stopped citizens n businesses to import quality JDM cars.

And allowing a cheeni company to import cheeni products in thousands of numbers. (They allow others too I think, but cost is huge because of high purchase price)

Foreign exchange is being depleted via imports in thousands. Thats the logic of why JDM import was banned.

I for one am strongly in favor of allowing imports instead of running the useless auto industry but this is a case of favoritism where someone is getting special treatment probably due to their proximity to the ruling party.

If kia motors starts importing Sportage it'd cost them a crore rupees, how's this justified?

Proton X70 costs 6 lac less than MGHS, comes with ADAS, blind spot, panoramic roof and all the other shashkas, including an N95 filtration system and kenwood speakers. Not to mention better performance specs, with 15Nm more torque.

And it's been used as a country's national car for the last several decades.

Also they pay their duties. They employ our nationals, give them salaries to run their homes. They pay their taxes like the rest of us. And still deliver quality without any scandals or suspended court cases which I have a feeling will be activated in the next two years. Proton also runs on regular fuel, no RON95 required, and they offer a 6 year warranty or 150k with better '3s' than MG. With proton, you would get locally sourced parts instantly since local assembly is active. Can you say the same about MG, where each part arrives on a container?

So should one go for looks and the feeling of hanging sword when they can get the better features like N95, better service and dealers network, better quality and better price in proton? Or should one wonder, weather the car they know full well is being held at port but dealer says is delayed due to 'covid' will ever arrive compared to peace of mind of local manufacture?

Gov is not giving any specials to anyone, the same tax bracket is for anyone who wants to import. SAIC is a huge company and at the moment are spending chunk loads of money on ADs around the world. For Pakistan I blv they are planing to let the car presence advertise itself and therefore flooding the market and it doesnt hurt when their pakistani partners own the biggest advertisment show horse with the name of Zalmi in PSL.
It seems SIAC is selling the MG cars to MG pakistan on very low rates. One can argue that its under invoicing but there is no way to prove it unless the parent company says otherwise.
SAIC has all inhouse operations, from the rubbers to even the brake calipers. If you see an MG you will be surprised that almost all parts are SAIC branded. In most other brands parts are outsourced to other venders, In SAICs case even when a part says "BOSCH" even that says that it is made by SAIC in china. so they can put ridiculously low or high prices and you cant compare with other vehicles as not many parts are from vendors who can say that the sum of all the parts are otherwise.
As for the loss of foregin exchange im pretty sure that the CKD costs of sportage and tucson would be around the same but they would be saving on the taxes, so in that case MG would be paying more tax to the government, and that tax is paid in dollars.

Not when the duty equates to over $18k per unit, more than the actual price of the car itself.
And not when there is only the provision of 100 units.
If MG was so desperate to jump into pak market, why did they sell half priced HS to pak when the money they saved ($15k) on each unit could easily build them a 10 floor building in every major city with 3s service? Or establish a local assembly plant, keep things black and white? It would give so much more confidence to Pakistani public because that's what every car assembler is targeting, why the incomplete market research? And money is not an issue for Chinese right??? In pak $100k buys you a nice place on commercial lease, equivalent to the amount they saved on a few HS...

You sir, are mistaken regarding the duties and the CBU import units limitation. Since it has been explained before in the thread I’m not going to repeat the whole thing again in detail but to conclude, yes the duty will be more than the price of the car.. that’s what around 123% means. And yes this is the full duty for this engine size if an authorised auto company wants to keep importing CBUs. The 100 unit limit gives you lesser duty than this on the condition that CKD will start after the 100.
The problem here is not duty, it’s a possible low price low margin strategy from saic and the local partner. And of course the current lack of service setup for most cities. The former is good for the consumers but the latter if not resolved, will cause long term pain and loss for them.

Mg also has all your above mention feature likes blind spot adas sunroof n95 filtration and even has more features like cool box ambient lights and paddle shifters plus looks and feels much better then x70
I agree with the duty part they do not have any flaw in that but what about the delays that are taken place for the deliveries plus the fact they are offering a Ckd even before makings one who knows how the Ckd will be should they be held questionable for that
And how can you say that they have a better 3 s network when they are only operating in three cities I myself had to go all the way to Islamabad to check it out and believe it was not worth it I will prefer MG all the way

What I want to say is that the consumer is not losing in this case if they provide good network and keep selling quality cars at the current rate the consumer will get what they paid for and will be a much better choice then Tucson Sportage or glory
These taxs are just some legal things and MG themselves are responsible for it the customer is only going to pay for the car and drive it at the end of the day that’s all what matters if MG win their case then they are going to be very successful making cbus and then ckds if wanted
Or else they will start focusing completely on plants and stop taking so many bookings for sometime
I quite prefer the idea of imported cars being sold at masses as it’s not like in other countries every car that is sold there should be a plant for it
If the consumer is happy that’s all what matters if the legal issues are resolved which they are going to be very soon

What else should we compare it to ? Brv or Sorento or Fortuner? Glory is in this crossover bracket the 3rd row is more of a gimmick has no vents there and close to zero leg room

You're right that the policy is same for all auto makers.

But, I'm in principle against the policy of depriving citizens and stopping them from importing quality jdms. Or.any other car for that matter.

While allowing automobile companies to import as many as they want.

Govt instead of being PRO.CONSUMER is anti consumer lol.

They don’t let people import jdms duty free as local companies are importing models by paying duties for declared amount and companies are getting some exemptions on import on the condition of making a plant later
MGs case is simple that they are paying duties for declared amount they are not getting cars duty free just as @shapeesh brother said
If you want to import a JDM just pay duties according to its amount just as MG is doing for the value saic has given it
