Pakwheels (Munj saab in particular) once again showing their standard of journalism by:

A) Propping up MG 5, which is priced near Yaris/City in other markets, as a Corolla/Civic competitor. This will allow MG to overprice the car and dupe the public (just like HS).

B) Claiming that according to their research, there is no market where RHD MG-5 is sold yet. This is incorrect, it was launched in Thailand last month.

I was disappointed at this video too. He compared it to Civic throughout and then the thing about no RHD version. All these Chinese manufacturers are out to take Pakistanis for a ride and rip us off, simply because our market has been so deprived of options for so long people are willing throw money at anything.

MG is conducting a survey to gauge what the Pakistani consumers want to see from MG-5. Interestingly, it looks like they will be naming it MG GT in Pakistan.

I would encourage everyone to go to this link and suggest a sane price (ideally 2.8-3.2 million)

Well government is making a decision on a complete BAN on CBU Import . I think MG GT is already dead before launch as there is no CKD as of now.

I think they can't really ban due to WTO issues. But yes they should put huge tax that should be submitted in USD

It remains to be seen if this will be a CBU or CKD. MG's CBUs are already under the microscope so they won't risk another blunder but on the other hand, they haven't even begun CKD assembly of HS or ZS so I don't know how they'll start CKD assembly of GT within 2022 as well.

Just as a reminder (before Pakwheels and the great Munj saab resume telling us it is a Civic/Corolla competitor), MG GT is squarely a City/Yaris competitor and is priced accordingly in foreign markets.

In Thailand, MG 5 costs 569-699k baht. In comparison, City costs (580-739k), Yaris (539-674k), Corolla (874k-1.06mn), Civic (965k-1.2mn).

The latest market where MG5/GT launched is Indonesia. It is priced between 340-400 million there. For comparison, Indonesian City costs (365mn), Yaris (290-322mn), Corolla (472-521mn), Civic RS (585mn).

So, if prices in Pakistan aren't in line with the ones mentioned above, Afridi saab will be taking Pakistanis for a ride again.
