Michelin XM2 vs Primacy 4

Hi guys,

I am currently using XM2 and these are 4 years old now so i intend to change tyres before summer. I had a quick look and some shops have Xm2 while some have Primacy 4. I am confused which one is better? Does anybody have experience with Primacy 4 how it fares against XM2?

Primacy 4 is superior to the XM2 in performance/grip in dry as well as wet. I have been using it in my corolla 1.8 for the past few months. It is also a newer tire and compound, less noisy and has better comfort in my opinion.
I used XM2 in my Civic 3-4 years ago and it was a decent tire, but not as good as the Primacy 4.
The only advantage XM2 may have is longer life and better wear, but only slightly.
Of course Primacy 4 should be slightly more expensive than XM2 so you have to look at that as well. I would say go for Primacy 4 is you can, and you won't regret it. Don't forget to check the manufacturing date. What vehicle do you drive and tire size are you looking for?

if XM2 has not been a problem for use stick to it. Buy only from 2020 production batch. Buy now and store it if you can because there will be real price hike for almost every commodity after Feb 15th due to IMF conditions.

Thanks for detailed comments. I have civic 05, 195/65R15. Currently i am using XM2 made in UK, November 2016. I bought em in 2017 April. I usually travel on motorway so considering to change now as tyres are more than 4 years old now, they still have a lot of tread left and minor superficial cracks so perfectly fine for city drive.

Primacy 4 is also legally imported tyre correct? I don't wanna end up buying smuggled ones. Will confirm from Zafar enterprise as well.

Most of Michelin authorized dealers are either out of stock or with old 2018 stock. Not sure what's the reason. Tyre point is selling for 16K 2020 Germany made. Should i go ahead and buy from them? I am not in too much hurry to buy em.
btw I also considered other tyres but any good tyre costs 13K+

Which tire did you end up buying? We also have xm2 on our civic but cracks have started appearing after 3 years, even though plenty of tread still left. I'm considering getting Primacy 4 as well.

Anyone else using Primacy 4?

What is date of manufacture on your tyres? Hope it was original import and not smuggled? Usually with smuggled tyres, the rubber loses its properties prematurely due to poor storage and transport conditions.

I bought xm2 from authorized dealer in Rawalpindi. He adjusted my old Michelins for 2k each tyre and his rate was also very competitive. I contacted official importer in Pakistan (Zafar enterprises) and that time they said we are only importing XM2.

45th week of 2018. I purchased them in June 2019.

Are they importing XM2 or XM2 Plus? XM2 Plus was launched 2 years ago, I think. Primacy 4 is sold in UK so probably better quality, but I think XM2/Plus are designed for poor roads - in that they can survive potholes better without bubbling. Not sure if Primacy 4 can survive potholes without sidewall getting damaged.

The one i bought is XM2. Last year options were limited due to covid lockdowns.
Best is that you call Zafar enterprise and ask them if they are importing XM2+ or Primacy 4 and also ask whether they are importing thai or UK. Last year, they were only importing from Thailand.
