Mitsubishi Galant Eight Generation Engine Swaps

Hey Pakwheelers!
Noticed a lack of Mitsubishi Galant 1996-2000 lovers! I am thinking of owning one of these and doing an engine swap into it. Want to know which engine to put in as an upgrade? The stock engine has horsepower of 141-145. I am thinking some 250-300hp improvement! I saw a Galant in UAE which was a proper 417 hp. So? Would appreciate proper positive responses, not negative and skepticism.

Well due to scarcity of the specified engines, one should analyze other options as well. What I mean to say is other than Mitsubishi. I would love to hear the experts here.

what engine does it have currently?if its a 2.4 4g64 than either do a headswap and turbo it or swap a 4g63

My vehicle is already swapped with an auto tranny 4G93. BTW engines runs pretty good with no issues whatsoever. I had a plan to dispose it off but the offers that I got made me change my mind. Now I am working on making it a power house, something out of the ordinary and would appreciate any help or reference that comes my way. In case you have a good complete setup in your view, do let me know.

Where r u from? I'd like to meet up if you're in Lahore. I'm running a 2.0 TDI and satisfied with its power and performance. Great economy as well. The swap and engine options would depend on which market are you targeting to find the motor.

I found almost complete suspension parts in Bilal Gung Lahore but haven't surfed the market for engines. It would be a better idea to swap a Mitsu motor in the car. Why don't you consider the options suggested by tintin1?

Hi Chery1. I am from Lahore and the last motor was swapped from Lahore. I am fine with the current engine performance but looking for a bit more now since I intend to keep the car. I am looking for a V6, 6A12 that packs a lot of punch. If you have anything good in your sight, let me know and I can give it a look.

Well, 400 hp engines in sedan/mid sedan are rare in Pak.
But according to your requirement, I found followings

Option 1

6A13
2500cc Petrol
V type, 6 Cylinder DOHC, 24 Valve
Max. power: 275 hp at 5500 rpm

Option 2
6B3

Option 3
6G72
DOHC

All these are stronger engines of Mitsubishi.
But first of all take the thread or measuring tape and carefully note down the distance between the engine mountings. Because this is the place where engine has to be well placed. And before buying any engine, make sure it can be placed well in the available space (within mountings) without doing any alteration. Otherwise, it will not be problem free.

I assume the 6A13 has Max 275hp as stock right? So if I turbocharge it and add air intakes, super chargers, modified ECU etc, I can take it up a notch right? Correct me if I am wrong here pls.

Also, someone just told me that the 2JZE-GTE runs better on RWD not FWD. Is this true? Also, can I get a more direct answer to the question: Can I swap a 2JZE-GTE into a 1998 Mitsu Galant without many problems? Engine bay modifications might be necessary but I don't want a hell lot of hassle.

My Toyota Crown has 2JZ -GTE (3000cc). But Japanese make this engine for 227~270 hp for Asia. But the same engine which they have developed for North American & European markets is documented as 320 hp (at 5.6K rpms). Not sure if its available in Pak. but you can import from Dubai perhaps.

But this 2JZ is among powerful engines of Toyota.
Yes in my car it drives Rear Wheel (with long drive shaft just like in trucks). But Crown is already long & heavy Car having curb weight ~1600 Kg, hence they fix it with RWD.
I have no experience to see where its running FWD.

But I can say its pick up is really really awesome. Overtaking somebody who is already going at 100~120 km/h speed, is no problem for this car.
I have heard that this engine does not perform well in crown in mountain area like Murree (because of its RWD). But I have not experience of it either. Because I have plan for family vocations in June/July.

Before adding force induction (tubro/supercharger) do remember that you need to lower compression a bit otherwise you will damage the block

Hey! I just learned that you can also get a 6A13TT in Pakistan. How much modification will the engine bay of the 8th generation Galant require to fit this engine?

6A13TT comes with AWD gearbox and its not a simple job to swap over, slapping a FWD auto gearbox on it will result in a burnt out gearbox after a few hundred kms. - regular FWD manual box will suffer from massive clutch slip when those turbos spool up.

I have done a lot of engine swaps on these cars and the engines of choice were

6A12
6A13 NA
4G63 - Right side mount
4G93 - NA - not GDI type (right side mount)

get a bone standard automatic gearbox and mount it with the engines, make sure your wiring is A spec and complete - you will have to splice into the fuel pump circuit, gauge panel and also some interior bits - you will need to trim down the replacement wiring if the one you buy is from AWD.

Its easy if you are versed with mitsubishi build system and wiring schema.

Dewan Motors sold this Galant with a 4G63 carburettor engine, its also a good choice if your car has a lot of bits n pieces missing or burnt away.

word of advice (freindly one)
If you are dreaming of a tire smoking car to impress the ladies and plan to do a 6A13TT swap and expect it to be reliable and workable in any economic sense then its better to stop right now and buy something else like a sports bike (ladies love a dude on a sports bike)

The VR4 Galant is not your regular run off the mill Galant. Its very different underneath.
