Mixing high-octane with supreme petrol

well my civic 1.8 used to give me terrifying jerks on every shift..took it to the mechanic and they just asked me to use high octance ..got my tank filled with high octane that night and 3 din bad the problem was outa the equation..and the 0-60 times were reduced too..from 9.1 to 8.5 sec!

one more thing..no offence but how would high octane improve efficeny..i mean higher levels of octance are suppose to burn at an increased rate, wont that result in lesser milleage done per litre..too bad we only get octane 95 here in pak at the max..which i too doubt it must be octance 85 or something

Hi-octane is fuel which is very dry. Mixing it with regular is good but using only Hi-octane is not good for local made cars.

Just to be on the safer side , i run my car on High Octane . The performance difference is there ..! if i am not wrong , the high octane we have here is 98 RON ?

I haven't tried that mixing thing though ...

hi octane is 100 RON and super is 87 RON. now the compression ratio of engine decides the octane rating to be used in car, normally in high compression ratio (higher than 1:10) 90 to 95 octane is recommended,however in engine higher than specified above 100 octane is used. so one source of selecting RON number is user manual. the formula of getting around 90 RON is blending with volume ratio means 1 litre of super mix with 900 ml of hi octane. in low compression ratio cars like khyber, swift, mehran etc using hi octane means engine wearing.

It suggests to use 88 octane !
So i dnt think its wise to use high Octane in the 8g civic !!!!

The octane rating is a measure of the resistance of gasoline and other fuels to detonation (engine knocking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines. The higher the octane rating, the slower the fuel burns. High-performance engines typically have higher compression ratios (and hence longer piston strokes) which requires higher octane (slow burning) fuel to allow the piston power stroke to complete before the fuel is completely burned. If the fuel burns faster than the downward movement of the piston allows, then the pre-detonating fuel results in a loud "knocking" sound and vibration. A lower-performance engine will not generally perform better with high-octane fuel, since the lower compression ratio is fixed by the engine design.

that knocking souns comes when the fuel u get is of poor quality. i had this sound two days back but then i mixed abt 1100 rs of hi octane in it and turst me guyz the sound was gone and now starting to sound again as the tank is getting empty. check that thread by enerlevel abt average from civic 07. i have posted some pics there and the sotry of my trip to hyderabad in my civic 04. u guyz can see there that i drove 360 kms in totall which includes 40 kms of city driving and rest of highway and still the tank has 1/4 of its capacity which is abt 13ltrs.

^^^When u try to accelerate the car in higher gear while ur moving slower, rings in engine make sound like karrrr karrr karrrrr (Got it?).... this is called knocking but in this case it's not a problem. It's a problem when it occurs quite alot and without any reason while accelerating even if ur in correct gears

the sounds are not of anything mechanical - they are preignition explosions in the cylinders - meaning the mixture is self igniting rather than the plug igniting it.

HOBC here is not PETROL its meant to be mixed with petrol - its a blending component, (literally meaning high octane blending component), using it neat will reduce performance and may also lead to carbon coking of the engine.

yep - all petrol here is 90 RON and after blending with HOBC at 1:1 comes up to 98 RON

to the guy referring to the new civic - fill up with petrol and do 2 driving cycles of 20 kms each - your engine ecu will "understand" the fuel quality and adjust injection and ignition timing itself

yesterday in both my cars (vitz 06 and cuore 08) i changed all the tires...cleaned the whole of radiator, changed the oil, changed oil filter and air filter, did the tuning, changed the plugs etc etc.... and filled both tanks with 100% hi octane.... and now there's NO knocking whatsoever....mashAllah`

hi-octane burns more faster than regualar petrol. i dont think mixing is a good idea for locally made engines. i personally think that and i might be wrong

merey bhai simple petrol ki tarah gari mein dalta hai. pterol pump wala wo 'gun' type filler apkey petrol tank mein rakhta hai, fire karta hai aur apka tank 'aam petrol' ki tarah FULL. phir yey k pocket khali hojati hai (H) aur aam petrol ki jaga, 'Hi-Octane' dal jata hai. SIMPLE. :S:)

@yawar if you read the links I posted than u will understand the combination of hi-octane and compression ratio the toys we are diving here dont need hi-octane

i read somewher here on pw that a member used hi octane exclusively in his civic or city n the catalytic convertor got choked after 12k mileage as its believed it has sulphur contents which 1 of the anti knocking properties.so 1 shouldnt use it in local civics??
