every international traveller can use his personal mobile device for 21 days with a local simm. Beyond that it require payment of taxes.
There is no time bar for device usage over foreign network with roaming partners or over WIFI data. you shall visit your local PTA office for payment of tax & usage over local networks if the stay is longer. Or if you plan to sale or gift the unit to somebody.
PTA website have very vague and out dated information.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the duration of using mobile device not approved by PTA on Pakistani networks is 60 days. After that, you've to pay the tax.
I hope it helps.
What amount of money? How to calculate?
Sure, its Samsung A20, costs about 150 usd so duty should be about 3000-4000 pkr but psid has listed its duty at 6180 pkr.
The tax on 200-350$ phones on passport is Rs 6180 And in pta database, A20 falls in that category
You can use foreign sim without restriction if on roaming but if you use a local sim then it has to be registered within 60 days from first use by paying duty after arrival, after 60 days you pay fine plus the duty. There is no need to visit pta office, you apply for coc online, generate psid online then pay at assigned banks, device imei then gets registered in drs.
Uploading...
Oh really but cost in all markets I know is less than 200 usd & thats what i bought at, anyway govt is bent on looting us i presume.
Uploading didnt work, here it is:
30 usd or less duty pkr 300,31 usd to 100 usd duty pkr 2940,101 usd to 200 usd duty pkr 4510,201 usd to 350 usd duty pkr 6180,351 to 500 usd duty pkr 17650,501+ duty pkr 31520 pkr
And what about a phone which is not available in market right now and the mentioned prices are old and different at different places?
You can use any device be it approved or not on roaming for indefinite period of time, coc/imei registration is required only when you use local sim, registration within 60 days by paying duty only after 60 days its duty plus fine.
Pta consults mobile association of Pakistan for mobile prices whatever that means, even if mobile price falls later you will still be charged based on the price guide issued initially by mobile association, yes pakistani stupidity rocks. For other devices you are at the mercy of pta unfortunately.
AgreeThere are no proper slabs, and also they don't revise phone market valueIn market, phone value drops significantly but in DIRBS till 2 years, tax is same Utter disappointment
Absolutely right moreover no consideration for dead device replacement either so one has to pay tax again, another system designed improperly by jerks.
dead device means IMEI is gone dead. ( unless somebody criminally rewrite an IMEI over new device )
however every new device has new imei and the tax has to be paid. There is nothing to be angry about and critical about system
My dear, device can die due to variety of reasons not just imei rewriting, i am critical of the system because its stupidly & illogically designed like every other system in pakistan with no foresight or consideration other than collection of money. tax being asked is about 40 usd for a real value of 150 usd (approx 1/4th the price). By the way this qualifies as extortion not tax. Apparently you have got used to such incompetencies but I am new to it.
Agreed. This is extortion! Paying such high taxes without any reasonable service or infrastructure in return.
i visited mcb/ubl/nbp/allied/bop & they said they dont have this service rather they seemed surprised that there is mobile tax in pakistan. Has anyone been successful with payment? I am following up with fbr for advice but the helpline seems clueless too & my coc will expire. I reside in vehari btw.
@zuhaibafzal
you cry or fry government, they made 52 billion Rs from this. however still policy makers give relief to the high end phone user, >500 USD tax not increased proportion to its price, means you will pay almost same amount to a 3000 USD phone
