I am worried about my mutt as i have given it in wrong hands.... have asked him to stop working on it as the mechanic doesnt seems to be competent.... he is not confided to open its suspension for lubrication and service... he was already confused regarding motor swap now asking that all suspension needs repair and rubber bush replacment of all..... also says that gear is in bad shape and might be needs replacment.....

my mechanic has confused me..... now he says that dont go for the simple 2c or 2ct... lets swap it with a 2002 diesel not sure that is it 2c or 2d but its a RWD... local guys call it a phool wala engine.... installed a housing on it at tapit cover like a flower... what do you guys suggest?

Aaah, KZ .... why are you letting him confuse you/ Its you who is going to drive it around, it should be you who decides what goes in it ? I have never heard of the flowery engine :), but what you need to ask him is what vehicle had this originally. Don't go for it if you dont understand it & furthermore its seems that you choose the guy wrong.

Is this the FJ you bought ?, how much for & what's the status on the engine ? You gonna swap this one too ?

yes,, this is the FJ i have bought.... asking was 270k but finalized in 240... running condition,,,, engine is 85%. so no plans to swap it as its gona take alot of money..

planing to keep it as original as it can be.... no doubt its a beast....

@ kakakhail --- hi sir jee u've posted pics of my mutt on page 9 in this thread the one u've mentioned with original petrol engine it was with the painter Shakil at that time at old golimar at yousuf dentors shop..... now its done few things left...... im still looking for a steering wheel as have tried to find the assembly of the steering wheel but hard luck....

I would suggest to go for the 2C turbo, what I have seen and pictures posted, it sits well. The only thing is to lift the front end at its original bolts. You need to find a good macanic, other wise you would be spending extra bucks. The suspension has nothing to it, if you have longman shop there take the sample and you would get the bushes. what I have done or rather my macanic has done, he has made soft metal bush by laith guy, it works perfect. Yes what you need to check is the shafts and their cross, I had one cross worn out, got a complete replacement from Laurance road. It needs allot of patience and time to look for parts.

Secondly you have puchased a wounderful machine FJ 40, my pocket does not allow me with two jeeps at the moment, as mentioned when I sell my 151 I will go for FJ 40. I have seen a few and trying to negociate.

Were these teflon bushes that you, rather your mechanic got made ? Teflon don't last long with dusty conditions, so keep a check.

Its my younger brother. The bushes are not Teflon, they are casted from soft metal, complete metal no rubber inside or out.

As for the bushes, do you have any piece out, i.e. not installed, I'd like to see it of possible. How much did one cost you and how does the soft metal take the place and performance of what rubber does ?

I am planning to visit lahore junk yards for the missing parts... while for the engine... i will do it after Eid...

I think this thing requires patience... and one should not be hyper and over quick to get it accomplished... as i did to my mechanic.... any how lets see..

Sarmad, no I do not have a spare one. It was made to order, I do not feel anything unusaual while driving. I have placed the lower one with the metal, upper one's are rubber as they were in reasonably ok condition. I had noticed that the front wheels were out of alignment, as you know Mutt suspension is similer to VW or merc. The wheel should be inwards from the lower end, You need to drive it some time to tell me what do you think about the feel of the suspension. I find the stearing wheel quite soft. The only thing I need is the diff. replacement, as its noisy.

Only the rear has a swing arm suspension and the A2 has a very slight inwards of the rear wheels. The phenomenon was greater in the A1 but it was also more prone to roll overs as the swing arm would buckle under sharp turns etc. The A2s had better & improved rear suspensions to avoid the same.

As for the front ones, they remain straight.

@ Sarmad Bhai-- AOA, please can you tell me that from where would I get the bushes for the rear shocks... as i've been very lucky ALHUMDULILLAH that my differentials are very very good............ only the bushes need to be changed so need your help on it....? and any idea how much would these cost...?

MBJ, I had the suspension works done on two Mutts from a guy called Farhan in Punjab colony. 1 day for i suspension, i.e. rear & front.

The labor cost was next to nothing & the rest was all parts (i did not need to put in shocks) The bushes costed me 1200 a pair. Farhan arranged them, they were not original. Farhan's # is 03332386036. He is next to this famous car AC shop, I think its called Qasim AC. It will be on your left if you are going from Sunset Blvd to Submarine Chowk.
