SUNDAY WORK.

This thing was bugging the hell out of me every time I saw it, so I decided to go for it.

Since then, I had painted it black, but even then it wasn't good.

I used painter remover to strip the paint, sanded it off with a grinder, prepped the surface with wet sanding, before applying three coats of red oxide, each one left to dry for an hour.

Now its going to get a coat of matching color, but 1st I need to decide on the color, either keep forest green or change the whole thing to OD green.

The damn thing was made in 1973 & still going strong holding liquid.

Sam - what are you doing with the gerry man? yours was all fine... have you bought another rig??

No man, its the same old rig getting older. The gerry can was old from my father's stock, so I had painted it black with simple matte spray paint.
That started to fade away from places so I decided to give it a new finish, 1st was to coat it with red oxide. It'll stay this way till the time I decide on the color for the Mutt

Oh, next to go under the hammer is the hood (bonet), it has two nasty dents.bumbs that just burn me down when looking over it while driving. Was supposed to give that for a finish last Saturday, but couldn't. Once that is done, it too would have temp red oxide coat over it.
After that I need to strip the layers of paint off the floor, plan to sand blast it, but am not getting time to do that. Since I do most of the jobs myself, I need to take out a decent amount of time for it, I cannot fathom dropping off the Mutt to anyone to get a certain job done. If I can't do it, I need to be there, on the guy's head, all the time.
The passenger side floor board has developed rust, I think I will go for a new floor fabricated from a 16 to 18 gauge sheet, with decent amount of run-off slots in the bottom for the water to flow out quickly.
I had taken off the shell racks from the back (only the center rail remains, plan to convert that into an enclose long compartment for tools etc). I painted the exposed areas so all that needs to go for a single/double layer of primar and paint.

What happened to your wiper machine? it seems missing too.

I spent whole of yesterday driving my mutt ... purchased axe and bailcha ... ordered tying belts to a tanga accessories manufacturer ...

The best out of yesterday was that i met an aged electrician, who is ex army and previously deployed on mutt electrical repairs :)... He knows each and every inch of mutt wiring and he has restored 50% of all of my mutt electrical functions in stock form and rest 50% are being done today .......

I have made some sketches of the jeep. Only my wife has seen them.

I have broken the project into 2 stages
Stage 1 - Mechanical Modifications
Stage 2 - Exterior Modifications

Upon completion of Stage 1, I will post the sketches. The reason being the mechanical mods would define the hood placement, ride height, weight distribution, and cabin space. Once these mechanical parameters are set then I can finalize the exterior looks as it should be inline with the form and function of the vehicle.

Ok so the wife approves the final outlook I presume :), My wife was a great push in me getting mine.

I'm a bit confused here now, what of the Mutt are you keeping within your list of modifications. Could you have done a similar thing on a CJ ? What's making you do it to the Mutt ?

I believe you have your plans worked out well & am waiting to see this transformation soon. None seen or heard of being done before. GOOD LUCK.

I had embarked on a 4x4 transformation project in year 2005. At that time I was going for a Defender 90. It was all set and done, but at the final purchase of the donor vehicle my wife disapproved of the vehicle, as she found it very ugly. So ended up using that money for a month long trip to Australia.

The 2nd time I started planning for the project, I considered G-Class as a donor vehicle. But due to certain family requirements I had to divert my funds. I had then made a promise with my self that by hook or crook I am going to start my 4x4 Transformation project by September 2009.

I bought a MUTT on September 30, 2009.

I have given myself 1 year to complete the project.

Why I have selected MUTT over CJ??
1) Moncok Design
2) Independent Suspension
3) Stock 4 Speed with 4x4
4) Wheelbase Ratio, Size, & Dimension

Fahim,
I can tell its not black anymore, but that's about it. Is it a shade of green, as the pictures dont show the true color.

Engine looks fancy with all that chrome.

Sam - what do u use for cleaning the mutt? Multan has loads n loads of dust so the mutt captures tons of dust at every trip i take her out even in the city.

I dont want to pour her into water every time to clean it.. but i dont like dust on it too. I am sure that if i wont find the solution my driver gonna resign from his job

Exhaust pipe normally catch rust & doesnt last in original color due to heat. , Can u share the updated picture of its Exhaust, is chrome still there?
