Modern Motorway or the good old GT Road?

I travel a lot between LHR-ISL and I have always wondered which is better. Please give your opinions. Some of the fators you may consider are:

1. Economy - Both short term and long term, like the expanse to make the trip as well as the effects on your vehicle
2. Availability of services - Petrol, CNG, Spares (if requires), Tyre shops, Restaurants
3. Time for the trip
4. Safety
5. Comfort
6. Scenary
7. Getting bored
8. Anything else that you guys consider important

IMHO the biggest drawback of Motorway is the lack of CNG stations available. The queues are so long at these stations and after a long wait your cylinder is not even half-filled due to the lack of pressure. Also you waste so much time that the benefit of going faster is nullified. What do you guys think?

I think GT-Road is better in every way...except ffor the Lahore-Gujranwala patch which is under construction all the time. Motorway is good if you are 3 or 4 people in the car otherwise you surely get bored.

Go the GT way.... better then M-2, if only the Tolls were reduced and illegal contructions and carts removed from the city areas....

GT Road is faaaaaaaaar better then M2

Lahore Gujranwala patch is underconstruction for the purpose of Lahore Sialkot Motorway and Wazirabad by pass one side is closed for contruction baki Fit hay for Car, Pocket, Enjoyment, Gun, Food almost for every thing..............

i liked M-2 when exit points were not so crowded. now one has to wait at least 15 min or so for ticketing or it could take longer than one hour too. e.g. on holidays.

GT road has its own charm, liked it ever since my childhood, enjoyed watching life of ppl living along side till the moment i was myself able to drive on it, now i only watch road

Very true. I forget to mention the exit points. They can be extremely annoying and time-wasting.

If your company is paying for fuel. Motorway is the only Option

mw if u got petrol or u can drive on petrol, if CNG then gt road is good. MW is good for relaxing while u r driving.

1. motorway is not economical at all , you have to drive a 100 KM more than on GT road to get to lahore.
2. I got my tyres bursted on motorway once and due to lack of service, the only option i had was to buy a second hand tyre for 3200 rupees.
3. It takes less time on the GT road then on the motorway. I usually go to defence area so going through lahore is a big stupidity, and once i get on Kala Shah Kaku exit to motorway , i always think that it wasn't worth ruining your car to save some money.
4. Motorway is alot safer by all means than GT road.
5. More drive comfort on the motorway, you dont have to worry about people animal rikshaws, trucks and khaddas, so it makes you journey more comfortable.

To round it up, my car eates 5000 rupees worth of fuel for a trip from ISB-LHR and then LHR to ISB. either i go from motorway or from the GT road, and i travel at night, so i usually go at 160 KMph , although it is boring but if anyone has every driven on the GT at night u'll see alot of checkposts, which waste alot of time. So in any case motorway suits me.

Well ! I had travelled a lot on M2 and on gt road. My experience says, if u are a speed lover, dont go on gt road at night. Your car can get totalled by hitting ang vehicle, truck, or u can even kill somebody. At day times, its economical as well as faster.
Its a pleasure to drive on M2 at night, u can easily do overspeeding, no tension at cng station, safe ride.
I reached islamabad in 3 hr at night on gt road on my charade 82 driving at avg. 120km/h
and my shortest traveling time is 3hr 13min on M2 at daytime, including 2 gas fill ups. My avg speed was 140km/h on charade 82.

Motorway all the way. Even I enjoyed travelling alone from Islamabad-Fasialabad-Islamabad. Only need good music to go and you enjoy every bit of the journey.

Cost: About 900 rs petrol one way, but lot of fun and smooth driving.

well if u like to change gears and overtake like me and hav fun then GT road is THE BEST . & not to froget in hot days M2 is so hot that there is a great pressure on ur tyres . and if u have a tyre blow up at 120km/h speed then BYE BYE to the world . u got the point.
