Modern Motorway or the good old GT Road?

1. motorway is not economical at all , you have to drive a 100 KM more than on GT road to get to lahore.
2. I got my tyres bursted on motorway once and due to lack of service, the only option i had was to buy a second hand tyre for 3200 rupees.
3. It takes less time on the GT road then on the motorway. I usually go to defence area so going through lahore is a big stupidity, and once i get on Kala Shah Kaku exit to motorway , i always think that it wasn't worth ruining your car to save some money.
4. Motorway is alot safer by all means than GT road.
5. More drive comfort on the motorway, you dont have to worry about people animal rikshaws, trucks and khaddas, so it makes you journey more comfortable.

To round it up, my car eates 5000 rupees worth of fuel for a trip from ISB-LHR and then LHR to ISB. either i go from motorway or from the GT road, and i travel at night, so i usually go at 160 KMph , although it is boring but if anyone has every driven on the GT at night u'll see alot of checkposts, which waste alot of time. So in any case motorway suits me.

Well ! I had travelled a lot on M2 and on gt road. My experience says, if u are a speed lover, dont go on gt road at night. Your car can get totalled by hitting ang vehicle, truck, or u can even kill somebody. At day times, its economical as well as faster.
Its a pleasure to drive on M2 at night, u can easily do overspeeding, no tension at cng station, safe ride.
I reached islamabad in 3 hr at night on gt road on my charade 82 driving at avg. 120km/h
and my shortest traveling time is 3hr 13min on M2 at daytime, including 2 gas fill ups. My avg speed was 140km/h on charade 82.

Motorway all the way. Even I enjoyed travelling alone from Islamabad-Fasialabad-Islamabad. Only need good music to go and you enjoy every bit of the journey.

Cost: About 900 rs petrol one way, but lot of fun and smooth driving.

well if u like to change gears and overtake like me and hav fun then GT road is THE BEST . & not to froget in hot days M2 is so hot that there is a great pressure on ur tyres . and if u have a tyre blow up at 120km/h speed then BYE BYE to the world . u got the point.

In Pakistan people usually do not like new things, they stick to old things, habits. Example FX over Mehran, old (indus) corolla, Baleno nahin Margalla, Cultus nahin Khyber, old Vti etc.

Agree to all members who say motorway and also @ ahsan_rg peace of mind absolutely... if you go from GT road by the time you get to lahore you need atleast two hours of rest , but if you go from motorway, then you can just hang out in lahore , do some shopping and then go to your destination.

M2 all the way...
Its smooth, its safe and if you follow the rules its much more safer than GT road and above all its relaxing.

@mzchaudhry i totally disagree your being saying travelling at 160Kph all the way....
i travell frequently on M2 and to be honest iv'e never seen someone going all the time over 140Kph, how cum you do that... you might have a company or rented car with free petrol. (lolz)

Motorway rocks. I feel metally relaxed there and after travel you dont feel much driving fatigue because you dont have to use your reflexes as much as on GT road full of trucks,rikshwas, pedestrians etc and even sometimes cattle show happens on the GT road and you have to wait there to finish.

I personally prefer to travel on the Motorway. It is safe and relaxing.

motorway gives advantage only to people of Faisalabad , it has lesser the distance btw Faisalabad-Islamabad to a great extent , u can reach Faisalabad in 3 hours if u dont stay at any point

My 2nd reason for m2 preference is that u can beat cops on M2 while over speeding, but its difficult to beat on gt road because of larger space on left side, u cannot see easily cops radar gun because of other items.

Motorway is the way to go.

Its safer, quicker, causes less wear tear on the car , so it is economical in the long run. You really can't put a price tag on safety. GT road is not safe. It has a lot of commercial traffic. Too many risk factors. Tractor trollies carrying steel rods that extend way beyong the dimensions of these vehicles.

If a car needs repair on traveling on either of these roads, then its really not fit to be on these roads. Driving on old tires is not such a good idea anyway.

GT roadsuits, people who are living in one of the communities off of the GT road. There are a lot of factories on GT road, for the traffic going to these factories, it does not make a lot of sense to use the motorway. I just drove back Sialkot today. Took me 3 hours to get to Lahore, thats about how long it takes to go from Lahore to Islamabad. When i got to Lahore, I was beat. Thank God, my car has automatic transsmission, otherwise it was going to be a even worse. Its a pain to share the road with the merciless truck and bus drivers. Its not fun too see a 10 ton house traveling on your direction at a 100 miles an hour. Only God knows how many lives are wasted every year because of the bad condition of GT road.
