Modifications for Datsun 120Y (1973-1974)

Hey there.

I want to turbocharge our old Datsun 120Y. Its totally stock (engine, body, suspension, interior, everything).

What will modifications/replacements will I have to do to the engine to have it turbocharged?

Secondly, can a on/off switch of some sort be fitted onto a turbo? I believe that a turbo doesnt run on CNG. And since the car's running on CNG I was wondering if there can be some on/off switch installed onto the turbo so that we can switch on the turbo when its running on petrol and switch it off when its running on CNG.

What can I do to change to original gearbox from 4 speed to 5 speed?

are you sure everything "substance" is under control in your vicinity

1st step is that u set a more powerful motor and a gear box in it and make sure its neatly and tighly bolted on to the chaise cz a turbo charged engine would produce some serious torque.
next check ur pop shaft or drie shaft what ever u may call it.for rusting and lose fitting cz these two if present could make a lot'v damage.
select LSD then can support huge hp.that would obviously be done as u swap a new gear box. THIS WOULD GIVE U 5-SPEED INSTEADOF OLD CLUMSY 4-SPEED.which motor are u running by the way?

Sorry ... I think its the A12 engine ... stock motor 1200cc rear wheel drive

I havent got any specific budget yet .... the maximum I can bear is the cost of replacing the whole engine if I cant rebuild and alter the current engine ... which should be around Rs 30-50K

bro u can get GA16 in it

I think you missed out the point - his car is RWD and the GA16 you posted has its dissy and throttle pointing towards the flywheel, meaning that after mounting it somehow to the trans he will have a throttle facing the firewall and no place to mount the distributor.

Put an old CA18DET in it and burn some serious rubber

Is CA18DET is easily available in Pakistan? and what about spare parts and what alteration will be needed to mount this engine in 120y.

can it be done?
u cut the popshaft/drive shaft a bit smaller in length to move the gear box backwards then place the motor in it and cut a bit of a body where the engine would be touching the body and weld it back in a curve so that engine does not touches the body in this way ..

the same procedure have been done in american hotrod when they placed a big block chevy engine in cheverle impala 96 and the car was running smooth burning out the rubber,they aslo had the issue with the firewall.
