Multan to Fort Munro, Pakistan - 2012 July 14

Do you live there? How is it like, the weather, the situation of drinking water? How many times did you have snowfall? How many rains in a season you get? Please share your experiences.

AoA...Yes i spend the whole summer there..in summer the atmosphere is not as that bad..normally the drinking water u used the Mineral water(disposal water) or there are many Pumps at the KHAR..the water is the MAIN issue there..as there are only 2-3 pumps and the whole area use them..u can buy water here for every use..Snowfall Umm each year only for a day u get snow...but in winter its like a hunted place..u can barely see anyone here..but the season of FORT MUNRO starts from MAY till sept..and in the season as per my experience u get rain every 2nd or 3rd day..in night u use some covered sheets or blankets..last year we have Electricity problem(3-4 hrs in 24 hrs) and right now i heard there is loadsheeding of 22 hrs in 24 hrs...u can have one hr in morning and one hr in night..as u can see there is no tress's and greenly..if we get enough greenly and trees then may b we get much better atmosphere...
News update..as per Punjab Gov announced the chairlift soon be in placed..and they are also said they overcome the water problem soon..The Late Farooq Ahmed Leghari(x president) started a pipe line Shakisarwar to fortmunro which is not being used since last few years cos of not proper maintenance..Its the best place for passing ur holidays plus a whole season of summer for the people of South punjab..this place is always under rated cos people say its a TRIBAL AREA..but believe me its the most secure place in all of Pakistan..i traveled DGK to fortmunro in night and never get any problem..same in fortmunro..no street crimes plus other things..its a beautiful place which requires the attention of our GOV to get development..

Probably there was a fort in the past there, but I didn't see it now, may be it's ruins are somewhere I didn't go.

About the name, I thought it was Monroe too, but it appears that Munro is the correct spelling.

Security conditions are good. No problem in day time, at night I am not sure. By the way night time is not safe at many places in Punjab, especially you should avoid going into rural areas of Punjab or other provinces at night.

yes u can see a FORT at the PA house..lol..acutally its not a fort its just a Post or a lookout tower..will check the pic and upload if i got any

I was planning another trip this month but my bro said that we should go in Monsoon when the rain will lower the temperature. Are you sure that you are getting rain after every 3 days? Because if it's so, I'll surely go before Monsoon.

AoA..Well the most of the population of Munro is of Different Baloch tribes..in winter they normally moved to DGK or Rakni or the adjoing areas..only few of them stay there at khar and the adjoing area of Ganji(its also a local name of one of the area)..few years ago no visitors came here so all the property belong to local baloch but now they sold there properties and moves to other area and came here in summer...

Hotels:well there so many hotels there..as u see the damas road u can find near abt 10-15 hotels there..taj mahal,holiday,TDCP,Hassan and the list goes on..many hotels provide u the Food and it depends on the lay out of hotel and the staff..if u visited the BAZAR of fort munro on the back of that bazar u see 2-3 food joints there..u can find Siji,karahi,daal and other daily eatables there...

Rates:well the rates of the hotel depends upon the TYPE of the hotel..starting from 700-2000..family hotels charge more and some good hotels whose reputation are good charge more and YES they have all rights for charging more then others..

Security:As i mentioned earlier i never heard any crimes within the limits of Munro..just 2 crimes relating to the Visitors once a bike was stolen and once a Mobile was snatched..but it happened 3 years ago..am visiting this place from ages ago..in my experience if u r alone and walking in some separated mountain peek u have no fear of anything Except wild dogs :P..u just have to avoid the some local Baloch and the Khetran(No disrespect)..some of the guys came from rakni,barkan,tor and other areas creating problem but not with every one..they have there own agenda..so according to security point of view i give 9/10.

If u wanted to see the rain of Munro then i suggest go there for a week or so..and yes monson will surly lower the temp but i bet that if u visited now u still feel the big difference then the multan and other places...am not going to say visit this date and this time and this month cos u never know the weather..u see the Snow fall in April in canada and u can have the thandi yak basta barish in the middel of April in multan..but i give u this that when it rain u can enjoy it the most...

About trees and greenly..people each year trying to plant the trees as a sajarkari type of scheme but may b u saw the GOATS there..no one bother to have there animals kept away from trees and other greenly..u can see the animals are moving without a looker and they can roam alone and return to home at night..and if u touch any one animal then get ready for a fight :D...2 years ago the Local MPA planted trees with the JUNGLA...but after few days u cant find a JUNGLA..so Ummm Aho

I really appreciate your elaborate and interesting reply. LOL at that jungla story, one of my friends bought a dog for guarding their farm, and the dog was stolen the same way I also thank you for your offer of help.

I am still wondering why people move away in winter even though there is v little snowfall. Do they move out because of road-block, heavy rain, or what? Because I think the cold in winter at Fort Munro is probably tolerable??

Very nice trip and pics bro ........... I have visited Fort Munro several times. An excellent place to visit in summer. But in winters its just like a ghost town. From Quetta it takes minimum 7 hours to reach Fort Munro.

Killa Saifullah to Loralai = GOOD (Takes 1 hour)

Loralai to Rakni = FAIR "But a portion after Loralai near Mekhtar is in bad condition" (Takes 3.5 hours)

Rakni to Fort Munro = GOOD (Takes Half Hour)

Because I have been affected hugely by Sindh Police's Bhatta system, had to pay thousands of rupees as extortion at many check points. Is the same thing practised on these roads/Balochistan too?

Exactly No fighting/clashes in this route.

Balochistan Police is the Best .... They never take Bhatta on highways. (Sindh Police say toh Allah bachaye, Apnay baap say bhi bhatta lain gae )
