Multan to Fort Munro, Pakistan - 2012 July 14

I visited Fort Munro on 14th July 2012. It was an awesome drive in the mountains and very cool weather on top of the hills. Clouds would come through gorges and engulfed us so that we couldn't see a few feet around. More than 6000 feet high, this place is like Murree to people of Multan and Bahawalpur. It's the last point of Punjab to the west.</div>

Fort Munro is a hill station, located at a height of 6,470 feet above sea level in Dera Ghazi Khan District of Punjab, Pakistan. It attracts a large number of tourists during summer. It is around 85 kilometres from Dera Ghazi Khan city. The people of Fort Munro are nomads, Many are bilingual, speaking Balochi (called Sulemani locally) and Saraiki.</div>

The town was founded by Robert Groves Sandeman in the later part of the 19th century and named Fort Munro after Colonel Munro who was commissioner of the Derajat Division.<br />

N-70 starts from Multan and ends at Quetta (Balochistan). Multan to Fort Munro section is alright. There is no physical divider and traffic can be quite rash and ruthless. Especially at night the driving can be difficult because there are no yellow or white lines on the road and no barriers on the side; you could fly off the road twenty feet below without knowing at that bend near Ghazi Ghaat.<br />

This particular landscape was my favorite. The feeling will be quite different when you stand there. You will feel as if the whole history is going to come rushing towards you from that bend of the river.<br />

People have cut all the trees, few of them left now. But this particular spot was good for picnic as it was a high hill, we parked our car here (not the one in picture) and enjoyed the home cooked food and drinks that we brought along.<br />

We came a bit away from the city to enjoy ourselves a nice high picnic spot, came up these bends. You can also see a small in height but long barrier here too. Someone people have used them to mark their lands.<br />

It's 180KM from Multan and it takes 1.5 hours to DG Khan if you go on 80KmpH average speed. So it should have taken us three hours (because in mountains have to go slow) but as we stopped at many places and spent some time, we reached there in under five hours.
