Salam i m new at PW. i want to trek mushkouri (nathiangali).I m new to treking and never done b4.
i live in rwp and want to visit via public taranport and want to visit lonely
plz suggest me about route and tips abt treking
whre can i find cheap or normal hiking accessories (backpack, hiking stick and shoes in rawalpindi)

Mushkpuri is not a difficult trek and can be done in a day. From Nathiagali governor's house, its about 3 hours trek. All you would need is a day pack with water and some snacks.

The cheapest place to collect the hiking gear is Landa near railway station. You can find sleeping bags, rucksacks and shoes there. Do search Sunday market for the stuff.

If you end up buying sleeping bag from Landa, make sure it is polyester filled and is washed/drycleaned prior to use.

For new equipment the options in RWP/ISB are Gown house at Muree road (expensive), there is one shop, can't recall the name at Beverly centre in Blue area and a shop called Summit I think in G-9 or G-10.

Better and cheaper gear, sleeping bags and tents can be purchased from Higher in Lahore. they do home delivery via courier service too.

The track near the Governor's house goes to Miranjani and not to Mukshpuri.
There are two main tracks to climb Mukshpuri.

1) From Dunga Gali:
Just in the main Bazaar of Dunga Gali you will find a metaled road going upwards. There are sign boards of Mukshpuri trek there. Just follow this road until it ends. From the back of the houses where this road ends the proper track starts. You will see water tanks on the backside of the houses. From this point onwards follow the only track and you will reach the Mukshpuri top. It can take anywhere between 1.5 hours to 3 hours depending upon your physical fitness.
2) From Nathiagali:
From the main Bazaar ask anyone about Hotel Pine (or Mukshpuri trek). It will take you about 15-20 min. on foot to reach the hotel. From the parking of the hotel a trek goes that passes through Lalazaar and ultimately reaches Mukshpuri top.

How To reach there:
Just go to Faizabad main Toyota Hiace stand. There you will see Toyota Hiaces bound to Murree, Ayubia, Nathiagali etc.
For both treks you will need the Hiace going to Nathiagali. If you want to take the Dunga Gali one drop at dunga gali else proceed to Nathiagali.

Tips:

• Take at least a 1.5 litre water bottle with you. Also take some Juices and Chocolates for instant energy.

• Don't take heavy lunch/breakfast immediately before or during the hiking.
• Hike at your own pace. Everyone has different physique and fitness level. Hike at a pace that is comfortable to you.
• Donot take long stops. My suggestion will be to stop for a maximum of 1-2 min. and also try not to sit on your stays. Just stand still and enjoy your water etc.
• Also don't drink too much water in one go. Just a couple of sips when you feel the need.
• Everyone gets the feeling of hitting the wall at some point. When this feeling arises motivate yourself, take a longer break, take energy drinks, eat chocolate etc. Since this is your first hiking this feeling might hit you much earlier. The more you will do hiking the more your confidence in your hiking develops the more you will be able to hike. I for an example am currently 30KG over weight but I have the confidence that I can do any hike and with this confidence I can do any hiking.
• Also note that if you are hiking from the Dunga Gali side the first 1.5 KM are the toughest. The ascend will be steep and you might say What The Hell am I doing here and you might think of abandoning this hiking but you should overcome this urge and carry on.

Hiking Gear:
Best hiking shoes are those which have a strong and thick sole. Since you will be stepping on stones and quite forcefully when coming down and if the sole is not thick the edge of the stones will have some impact on your feet. Also best shoes for hiking are high ankles. You can find some good used Hiking shoes in Jamia Masjid market near Raja Bazaar.
Also for such small hikes you can also have any joggers if you don't have proper hiking shoes.
The backpack should be light weight and should have strap to be buckled on your abdomen as well.

Stick you may find from nathia gali/dunga gali worth Rs. 300-400 bargain price. foldable.

For rucksack... you can take a small shoulder bag, which can only have space for a bottle, snacks, and a raincoat sun hat etc.

You don't need a big ruck sack for such a day trek..

It take you 2 hours. and one hour on back..

I suggest you that you start trek from Dunga Gali...

and on way back go Nathia Gali.. take your lunch at nathia... (or you may take lunch to mukshpuri top)..

If you are new to hiking...

Try hiking at Margallas especially trail-3. You can go in the van (public) upto Saidpur village. and from Saidpur village do a 500 meter walk to F-6/3 trail head. there is a parking a shop... excellant to do that.

You can also take taxi from Jinnah Super, Super F-6 or faisal masjid for F-6/3 trail-3 start point.

v were there this monday, me, my two sons, age 10, and 8, my younger bro, with his wife and 1 year old daughter, my sis, v reach there in 2.5 hours, and came back around in 1.5 hours....
climbed from donga gali, and came back via shangrilla pines, nathia gali,
if u go by nathia, or doinga, u will come to a adjacent mid pooint , lalazar, pic attach, and then its a single track to the top....

This trek starts from behind nathia gali bazar... Near Governer house.. from Namli Gali.

20-30 mint walk from Nathia Gali towards start of trek.

it goes straight and steep to the top
