My 2017 Black YBR - Review [so far]

Salam everyone. One and a half month back I purchased a new YBR 125 as my first bike. These are my impressions so far, I'll try to make it short. It's driven 2100km so far, no tappet/carb adjustment on first tuneup.

The Good :
+Comfy
+Vibration less
+Silky smooth gears
+Looks stunning
+Handling & road grip is very good
+Economy (57.5km/l)
+Brakes are very good

The Bad :
My YBR starts missing at 8500 RPM, haven't changed stock Carb settings yet. I don't normally ride fast, I shift at 6k RPM and mostly cruise at 60-90km/h, but If I do accelerate hard the bike is hard to redline, It will redline but it starts missing at 8500 RPM and so I shift.

Now about Top speed, I have gotten it to 80 in 3rd gear, 100 in 4th gear but when you engage 5th gear the speed slowly goes upto 105km/h on a fully straight road and RPMs stay at 7.5k in 5th gear. There is a bit more room on cable throttle but the acceleration is slow at this point and I didn't bother more. I would say 105km/h is it's top speed. Yes I have taken it to 120km/h on 7th Avenue but that was on the downhill slope of 7th Ave. I am satisfied with top speed, the bike goes easily uptill 100-105km/h but after that it doesn't go much faster to be fair. It just sits there in 5th gear.
I think the bike has the potential to go till 120 km/h on straight road but the carb will need to be better tuned because I think it's running a bit lean from factory.

I have replaced stock muffler and pipe for Yoshimura, the bike now sounds bassy, sweet and loud enough but not too loud that it will bother you, just perfect.
I should mention that I get backfire 50% of the time exactly when changing gear after I swapped the muffler. It's a like a pop but Yamaha's mechanic told me it's not a big deal. I think it is doing the pop because it is running slightly lean.

I'll answer any questions below. These are my thoughts so far.

YBR is a very nice machine and can last long if not put into racing... it is maintenance less bike.

Abdullah bro you got really nice machine with stunning black color MASHA ALLAH i like yamaha bikes because of the best ever build quality what A finish these bikes got & for top speed your bike can do 120+ but for that your bike need very good valve+mixture adjustment which city you belong

Congrats you are doing good keeping it away from mechanics and yeah 100 is good top speed enjoy the looks,features & smooth ride of bike. Missing issue its sad still coming in brand new bike i think believe it is may be because of untrained workers in yamaha assembly who are not setting up bike properly

I have also recently bought YBR 125G in black. Just have driven occasionally for 800 Kms so far. I changed its engine oil to Yamalube on 500. Like yours, nothing was done by the mechanic on 1st service at 500 except oil change and cleaning of air filter. So far my feelins regarding this bike are mixed in a sense that undoubtedly it is comfortable and boy .... I love its headlight. But some how are the other the rear tire doesn't feel alot grippy to me. Any suggestions or is it ok and I just have to stop thinking a bit too much about this?

I would not suggest Yamaha lube, my bike was heating a bit on that oil. I have switched to ZIC Semi-synthetic but I'll drain that and put in LiquyMoly fully synthetic in a few days after 1000kms are completed on ZIC. The rear tyre is fine for me, just don't brake hard, that will lock the rear tyre and it will loose traction and start to slip, Brake with adequate pressure. Take the breakin period easy and use full Synthetic 20W50 LiquiMoly. The bike gets better after breakin period is over.

I normally dont ride above 70 kmph. After initial break in period, would push it a little bit to experience what YBR is actually capable of. Till then, it is on a honey moon period for sure. About engine oil, well so far I have ridden it for very small bursts such as maximum of 20 to 25 kms. Yes bike did felt it got real hot but the temps recently have also been very high. Anywayz, I am also thinking to switch to LM 10w40. What do you suggest about that?

100/90.18 tyre might fix issue. And use service tyre unme cracks nhi atay kae saal tak.

10W40 is good for winters, 20W50 is suitable for conditions right now. I think you should give ZIC Semi-Synthetic 20W50 a try. It's better than Yamalube, that was awful experience for me.

Brothers Assalam O Alaikum. I also own a YBR 125G and got my muffer replaced. It sounds nice but i think there is some problem with speed o meter. It shows less speed. I know this because i got it checked while racing with a friend's YBR G. His speed was at 60 was mine was at 40. Also, his bike pick is a little better than mine. That is because i think he did something with plug and carb.

I want to know , can i use Hi Octane once in my bike? Also i asked a mechanic to change the air filter. He told me we dont have to change it before 10000 kms. Is that the case? I mean when do have to get air filter changed? My bike has done 5500 kms. It doesn;t get hot nor engine gives any noise. It is in perfect conition. Also, suggest me a good Engine oil as i have been using Yamaha Lube. And any good advice to increase bike pick.

Any other useful advice will be grateful

Your bike speedo is deffective, you can replace it in warranty under 6k kms. I don't suggest Hi-Octane, the bike's engine is pretty basic and small with a normal compression ratio of 10:1. Your carb can be retuned by a Yamaha trained mechanic, it's fairly easy to do yourself but if you don't know how to then take it to a Yamaha service centre.

Masha Allah nice pix ..... whenever I get bore driving my Honda City, my YBR 125G becomes a perfect choice. I normally switch between my rides while going to my office. Just love the day when its YBR's turn. Although, I don't rev it hard but the ride quality satisfies my inner self. I haven't driven it above 70 - 75 Km/h and its about 700 KMs driven. I don't want to modify it much coz I wish and I will try that it rides perfectly by keeping it in stock condition. My first tank was of a total hi octane and then the next refill was of 50:50 ratio, maybe from now onwards will refill it with normal petrol and continue to do so.

Correct me if i am wrong completely or partially, i dont think missing at certain RPM is carb mixture problem at all. Its about the CDI unit or speed limiter that they put inside bike.
My honda usually gave 109-110 kph on GPS and once 112kmph. But after that CDI unit broke and replace another genuine one. It doesnt even go past 101 kph. Except once it went as far as 106 kmph.

So i am in the middle of trying differenct CDI units. I mean this year all i worry about is finding good old or new CDI units and checking the top speed and accelerating power.

Mixture alao plays the role. But that has to do with engine capability while CDI has nothing to do with engine.

I am not sure if it's the CDI or Carb settings. YBZ has an upjetted carb and might have a better CDI unit. It could be the CDI failing to provide enough current on higher RPMs.

AOA Brothers,
I am proud Owner of YBR 125 G from 13th Feb 2017. I have driven the bike i.e. 8000 km.
So far i can say that this is one of the best bikes currently available in Pakistan.
But there are some of the back draws with this bike:
Firstly remember this that this is not like any other bike on Road. It doesn't like customization much.
The few customization which i have done and i will mention the end result
1. Sporty Short 3 Piece Handle Bar (Result: good and sustainable)
2. Short and Sporty Gear Lever Bars (Result: these are highly expensive and impractical)
3. Iridium Tipped Spark Plug and Plug Coil (Result: reduce the missing element up to 80%)
4. Made the tyres Tube Less after inserting the Tube nozzles similar to nozzles in Tyres of the Cars expense was Rs. 1000 (Result: the handling of the bike becomes easier as the tubes were bypassed, bike became lighter)

But i want to share the experience that i am little unsatisfied by the Yamaha Lube (20-50). Can anyone of you can suggest me something better because it is good for like 1200 km but i am changing my bike's oil at 2000 km interval with tuning. Kindly suggest me something better for better optimal life of the bike
