Im almost scared to answer your question. Ofcourse fuel economy would be hard hit so im not expecting any miracles. That said, Hondas 4 cylinder engines are generally very economical to run. In fact one of the major reasons for the VTEC implementation is to save on fuel in low RPMs. The project is still underway so I cannot comment on fuel economy at this time. Once done I will definately post some figures.

details about the shifter cables.. what do they do exactly, why are they needed?

i am turning this idea round and round in my head of using a conventional easily available front engine front wheel drive engine in a rear wheel drive vehical.. without using a specific gearbox..

I know what you mean. But converting a fwd to rwd in the new chasis is a complicated thing. Better start with a chasis originally designed for rwd. I bet something can be done to make the engine push the car rather than pull it

try to get coilovers as most of honda civic engine swapped have change suspension n some of them using adjustable coilovers to improve handling, launch with good traction n also help in braking
