Mashallah!
This is by far THE BEST thread on Pakwheels yet. I totally agree with you design philosophy for an electric car. the choice of Mehran and keeping the original gearbox was an excellent choice. This is just too awesome! If I was a millionnaire, I would fund this project right now!
I have just a few suggestions to improve on the overall efficiency of the car.
1- Use LED's for lights, which will reduce electricity consumption by upto 20%.
2- Cheap aerodynamic improvements. I know we don;t have wind tunnels, but I still believe something can be done on those lines.
I know it is a bit early for this project, but these two things will enhance the efficiency of the vehicle a lot. Please do think on these lines.
Once again, hats off to you! I salute you for taking the initiative and actualy materializing this project. As far as people accepting new technology iss concerned, Yes, people do have an issue with accepting it here in Pakistan. My uncle imported electric scooters 4 years ago with a range of 80Kms and a top speed of 70Km/h and was not able to sell a single unit. It might have been the wrong choice of his location, but the point is, that they did not sell at all.
Things have changed now. Fuel prices have gone through the roof, and international media attention has shifted somewhat towards alternative fuels and technologies.
It would be interesting feedback here as I work for a US based company which does customer staisfaction surveys for US automakers and while reviewing those, I hear a lot of customers talking about hybrids, clean diesels, biodiesel and pure electric vehicles. The biggest issue with electrics and hybrids in the long run is of
a) Disposal of batteries (Environmental implications).
b) Cost of new batteries after every few years.
Let me give you an example. A VW Jetta TDi does almost the same mileage as a Prius or an Insight, but provides much more power. These new VW diesels are super clean. They even have a "California Edition". I could go on and on about this as cars and related technology are my passion, but this is going off topic now and this popst is already way too long for most people's taste.
Once again, excellent piece of work!
Allah Hafiz.
