AOA Pakwheelers,
I bought used PKDM swift 2013 model in last week of April-2018. Car was abused and was not properly maintained.
When I got it,
- I changed its plugs. Plugs were in bad condition and I installed OEM recommended plugs to keep everything on stock for proper troubleshooting, if we faced anyone.
- Previous owner was using tap water which definitely caused rusting in radiator. So I get done complete service of radiator which removed a good amount of rust from radiator. Car cooling and AC performance improved a bit.
- New brake pads and disk brakes installed because the fitted one almost completed its life and were completely worn off. Even it started cutting disk plates and drums. Workshop wala did tooling of all plates/drums for smooth and equal application of brakes.
- I changed engine mobile oil with brand new zic 10/40. Odo was already clocked for 100k. Changed gear oil as well.
- AC performance was really disappointing so I serviced the AC but cooling is not comparable with AC of 2008 XLI which I already have.
- Clutch was also weak so I replaced complete clutch with brand new clutch set for optimum performance. Car was like now hungry for throttling. Driving this beast is really a good experience.
- We completely serviced cat converter for improved fuel average.
- We also replaced shims to make the gap of tappets as per OEM standards.
Fuel consumption was improved to the 12KM/L on long route while in city it was about 10-11.5. This was not acceptable and I along with my mechanic (who worked at Suzuki for 10 years and now he started his own workshop) did every bit to improve the fuel consumption.
I again discussed with my mechanic that fuel average is not improving further and he suggested me to drive it on long drive but without AC.
Today it did as per his instruction to troubleshoot why fuel average is not improving. I drove my car on G.T road and fueled it when reserve light comes on. I refueled it for Rs=500 and drove it on long rote to check the fuel average but without AC. Though it was a tough call but I slide down three windows for fresh air which worked.
I maintained my speed in 80-100 bracket and didn’t crossed 300 RPM. Mostly it drove it for 90 Km speed. Amazingly my car did 16.60Km/L when again reserve light comes on. I refiled it for another 500 rupees and repeated he drill which coming back to home and fuel consumption was 16.50 for 5.39 liters of fueling/refueling.
I shared all this drill with my mechanic as per his instruction and he told me that this drill was to find out the culprit for bad fuel average. As per his statement which is definitely very logical, if fuel average without AC remained same i.e 10 to 12 then it was the engine or associated parts fault. But now without AC fuel average was jumped to 16.60 which means engine and all other parts are working well and are in good condition.
So now culprit is the AC of my car. As per my knowledge, PKDM has piston technology AC system as compared to rotary based AC system installed in latest cars. Now my question is, do JDM swift has rotary based AC compressors and can they be bolt on fit in my swift? What should I do for my faulty AC.?
