I considered 50mm and 60mm; thinking they are closer to "Normal Focal Length"; good for all-time mounted-on-camera! Though 50mm / 60mm on APS-C dont remain "Normal"; but I have compromised and get used to it now

100mm (160mm on crop) will become too tight and will only be useful for just Macro or outdoor Portrait where there is a space to move back and I will still have to carry 50mm f/1.8; something that I am trying to avoid. But seeing the 100mm Macro images on Flickr like this one; I am now ( and C O N F U S E D )

If you cannt find the Color Gels for the flash in local market; http://celticland.com/about/FullSheet.pdf has the Color gels that you can print to white transparency using the color laser printer. Here are mine:

Next I need to find the valcros and elastic bands; will wrap the elastic band around the flashgun's head and attach the valcros to upper and bottom side and cut these prints accordingly.

This 100mm is for sure not a general purpose lens.

But its very strong in its specialities which are macros and close-up portraits. For portraits, its a bit extra sharp which can be easily fixed in LR or ACR.

50mm and 60mm macros would be tough for insects as the working distance is very less. 100mm gives a breather for such distance and is reasonably far to take good macro shots at 1:1

So far, this is the best lens under $1,000 that i have seen effectively using full frame of the photo at f2.8.

Carrying a 50mm f1.8 should not be a problem at all as its the tiniest of the lenses

For macro Canon 100mm 2.8, L or non-L. Both are better options than either 50, 60mm lenses from canon. The working distance is perfect, both of the lenses are stupid sharp from 2.8. The L has IS which is nice for static objects, but for macro you will most likely be using a tripod so IS is not that necessary.

Given on internet 50mm/1.8 is 100$+ and its local rate was similar; I was expecting 60mm to be of 34k-35k but that unfortunately is not the case. Thanks to "Khappey Pakistan" government and our always depreciating currency; rates of everything are increased!

• EF-50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro is not coming anymore; the last pieces were sold for ~27k/28k (A)
• EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro in market is from 39k-42k :-#
• EF-100mm f/2.8 Macro is 53k-55k :S and the "L" Macro is 78k

While I save secretly for the Macro Lens; there are some other good news; and if things turn out good; coming up weekend should be fun insha-Allah!

The dollar thing has made the retailers go crazy like literally 'Loot maar!'
although most of their stock is old, i.e. they bought it before the dollar rose and now they are selling at the new converted rates. When u talk them into this, they refuse to bargain :S

similarly prices of all lenses rose significantly over the past 4-5 months :'(

^^^ Businesses like to sell items for at least the cost of replacing inventory, not at original the purchase price.

But Canon Link, in Islamabad don't do this. They sell the items at a somewhat cheaper rate than its competitors. Its not the cheapest retailer out there but they are good.

Your off camera flash is direct to the subject, why don't you try to bounce the flash off of something. Then most probably ettl won't be effective so use your flash in manual mode , with half Or full power

You know the kids; its hard to hold them steardy; ETTL was the quick and dirty and secondly wanted to see what difference CTO gel produces and its more noticable in the direct flash.

Got a chance to try out couple of Phottix products. Using its Radio Trigger; we triggered the flash that subsequently were triggering two Phottix Mono-lights that were wrapped in Phottix Softboxes. Used Phottix' 67mm Close-Up Lens Filter /w 18-135; and here are few shots that we took

I am liking the White Reflective Umbrella the most. Unlike Shoot-Through; it throws the soft light focused on the subject!
