Yes they do not ship to Pakistan. I purchased it online and in the shipment address gave the address of a relative in US. All my purchased itmes including this device were brought to Pakistan by another relative who was returing after a visit.

@Garcia. The map I am using is very detailed and it has been installed by a guru and a fewllow Pakwheeler

The NuVi shouldn't have costed you more than $100. Its as basic as basic can get.

I have a Magellan Maestro 4200, but they dont have support for any Maestro's.

@Carus. Lets make a bet on the price. I can email you the invovice from amzaon if you like. Yes it is one above an entry level GPS, because it has bluetooth. It could be bought for 100 bucks, but without the stuff like dash disc, suction holder, data cable, car charger, ac charger, carrrying case. You know how much each of these things cost.

As you said there are no monthly chareges, means its use is free for ever? This device is actually a satellite receiver, is this satellite reception really free? I am a bit confused on this point.
Is not it possible that satellite operators fee for, say, 1 year is included in the price of the set and after that time you have to pay some fee to satellite operator on monthly basis?

@Xplore, bhai it is absolutely free. If you have a gps phone like Nokia N95 or 97 or a Blackberry with built in GPS they can also have the signals from satellites free.

@Samialvi. Mobitrek can guide you even if you do not have a phone with a built in GPS. But they charge some 300-400 rs per month for the service. If you download maps from pkmaps.freeforum.org on a gps phone, you will be getting the navigation for free.

I am using GPS along with Google Latitude + Google Maps on my Nokia E71. It has much better and detailed maps as in it shows even names of shops, roads and parks e.g. it shows gourmet bakery, XYZ medical store, names of banks etc. It is a free solution if you have a GPS cellphone (iphone 3g, nokia e71/e90, htc tytn II, diamond, touch pro and the list continues)

Another advantage of Google Latitude is that I can track my family members realtime (with exact locationupto 5 meters accuacy) and they can trace me while on the go and even though internet! and in case I do not want anyone to see my location I can always disable it or set a fake location;)

Btw all this is completely free....you only need to have GPRS activated on your phone(I have unlimited package for Rs. 500/month)

no through GPRS.....using it through Wifi is useless because using Wifi means you are at your home or someplace where your family already knows you are there.......
With GPRS I use it on the go, can track people and get detailed real time maps

nice buy!! I wasnt expecting a thing like this in Pakistan untill 2050 with the availabilty of maps to.

@Xplorer. The device pairs with the phone with the help of bluetooth and you can send and recieve calls hands free while driving.

For GPS, GPRS is not required, but with the help of GPRS and Google Maps you can have your locations and of your friends on your mobile as explained by @mani1 in the replies.

@mani1. I am also using Google Maps through GPRS on my cell phone. Have you used Google mapmaker, you can add, mark, delete locations on Google maps with the help of this tool. It's brilliant.

@Khurammed. Thanks. Now there are several Pakistani maps. I think that soon Google maps for Pakistan will be available for GPS devices.
