It only happens if you don't maintain it properly.
Mercedes Benzs are much more reliable than any Honda or Toyota, that's a fact bro.

I never doubt that mercedes benz are robust cars but not the new ones old ones were much better specially diesel ones had one that clocked 280k kms w/o any major issue. But the fact also is that japanese cars are also much reliable. I have driven BMW Audi too but mercedes has luxury feeling compared to BMW which is bit sportier. Audi is also another level of perfection.

I feel you bro, there was nothing better than a 380SEL but in Pakistan, people swap the engine (usually a 1JZ or a 2JZ), rice it up and just completely destroy it.
Japanese cars are also good but there is a reason why Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz are known as the big three in terms of luxury.
One can only say, "Old is gold".

i see a lot of cars on the road whoose all light not working, i recently replaced the high mount stop light bulb on 2006 altis as well, the only difference is in other cars one can turn a blind eye to it and in this you'll be warned every single time as it would be a MOT failure abroad and thats a embarrassment for ze German:P

it also has a warning message if the hood is not closed properly.

i have driven BMW 320i and w211 e class as well and have rode in audi a4 1.8T, my take of at least these models is that the mercedes is luxurious and hi tech, the BMW is no where close to the overall ambiance and luxury but it drives really good and really engaging, the audi is kind of in the middle, i found it a bit boring and lacking character as a result, its more similar to japanese then Mercedes and BMW. i would really consider a lexus equivalent abroad but in pakistan wheere servicing of JDM cars is so problematic i would prefer to have a car where the company is present(shahnawaz/dewan etc) and i can order brand new parts anytime i want/get original oil filters etc.

I used to have E220 CDI W211 and it was workhorse, drove it 280k kms and then sold it, was a real pleasure to drive it in Pakistan. BMW has very high maintaining costs it can make owners cry but if it is good then it wont let you down even in toughest days, but BMW lacks that luxury feel in which mercedes is step ahead. I have Audi S8 D3 in dubai at my workplace and it really is very nice car to drive and that 5.2 V10 FSI gets away with most of the cars on highway. Audi also has very refined cars but only A8 and S8 are some real pleasure. In Pakistan i think BMW Audi and MB have their sales and service. For JDM i wasn't taking about orphan imports but japanese brands running here Toyota Honda and Nissan.

yep audi has the smoothest transmission and engines for sure, of course a8 is top of the stack and that too a s8 si better be good.

time to get back to this thread, over the coming days ill be updating on some presents i got my Mercedes. some scheduled maintenance that i am going to have carried out on the car as well as well as rekindling some of that discussion and showcase relating to this model. i will also give a small review for the new Mercedes CLA which i got to test drive as well. for now some fresh pics.

the first and second pic is when car is slightly dirty having stood for two weeks, rest are after a rinseless wash and tyre gel application

it was last waxed 6 months ago and sealant is about 10 months old, surface has never had any abrasive applied on it

so first thing after getting free i wanted to do was get the rear differential fluid changed. i was aware that the existing fluid condition was not bad but 140,000km and 13 years later it was best to change it for the long life of differential. i have seen people who dont change differential fluid for long time leak later and it also smells crap.

i ordered the fluid at Shahnawaz they took a few days as it was not in stock. most people i checked with lahore didn't have the required quality of differential fluid specifically it needs 235.7 or better spec and should by typhoid 75W-85.

the differential fluid arrived and i had it changed at shahnawaz. total capacity is 1.2 litre and they charged me 13k including tax for the fluid and 3k labour charges to do it only took 15min.

actual cost is 10500rs per litre and you have to get two bottles of 1 litre each but another car was in for a differential fluid change so they opened the new sealed bottle infant of me and used 0.2 litre on my car and charged me accordingly. its a high quality mineral fluid with some addictive boron i think for MB differentials.
the original fluid was brown so i guess it was not bad but now i have piece of mind and car seems to be much better planted on the road especially if you press the accelerator while taking a uturn.
