Dear Pakwheelers,
My last ride was a Suzuki Liana Eminent 1.6 Auto. I have driven it for almost 3 and a half years and about 70,000 kms. No trouble whatsoever. Never had to visit the workshop except for oil change, brake pads replacements and such sorts of things. It was a sweet ride, comfortable and noiseless. Served me well and was difficult to make the parting decision.
The reason I left Liana and opted for a 7 seater SUV were following:
1) I needed more seating space as kids are getting bigger (of course older) Masha Allah, and on frequent trips to my pind, if even one extra passenger got on board, the car started seeming too small for us, in terms of seating space only, nothing wrong with the power.
2) I had always wanted to have an SUV as I am inclined towards light off roading, casual hunting and voyages out of city.
3) Somewhere deep inside, the paindu kept enticing me to keep a vehicle which had a macho road presence
It was not a well planned and thought out decision. One of my colleagues and friend insisted on buying my car and we struck a decent deal. Since I had already started thinking and feeling the need for the bigger car, I thought the time was right and I should give it a try.
After searching for some time, I found the following vehicle. It is a 1993 model Pajero Intercooler Turbo GLS with 4D56 2.4 L diesel engine. The vehicle was imported by British High Commission in 1993 and auctioned in 1997 when it was registered again with the current registration number. The entire body is in it's original paint. Not a single piece has been touched up. It is still running it's original engine, which is in a decent state. All gadgets, 4WD, Sun Roof etc are in perfect working condition. The pics are attached for comments and reviews. So far, I have found it to be extremely comfortable and nice
It does need replacement of rubber suspension parts and that is it. Will keep posting further as and when appropriate.
I need advice from experts / seniors on the following:
A) Driving style - I have always been a light footed driver and managed to keep the engine between 1.5 and 2.0 K rpm. It doesn't seem to be the case in this vehicle. How should I drive it in city and on highways so that I get maximum fuel economy and efficiency.
B) How should I use the 4WD option, I mean what position in what circumstances?
C) What preventive / frequent maintenance should be carried out?
I hope seniors will guide me for my vehicle in particular, especially the ones who own or have owned the same car. I understand 2.4 liter is underpowered, but I have to live with it. I am not a speed enthusiast at all, but I like to enjoy my ride.
Thanks a bunch for reading this far and I anticipate good advice. For those curious, I bought this car for a little above a million rupees. Please also comment on the price tag, though it is irrelevant now.
After spending some time with the vehicle and learning, I will step into performance upgrades.
