Another tough one. I am thinking of moving ahead as I am really getting into the 4x4 and SUV scene. I just had an awesome experience of travelling to Northern Areas with family, a brief account of which has been given a little while ago. Now I wish to grt something more powerful, although I hardly ever felt that my 2.5 MK2 is under powered.

I am thinking about a 80 Series LC which is a little out of my budget. Second choice is very tricky but I am more inclined towards it: A Nissan Patrol 1990ish 4.2 SGL. Some are available for mouth watering prices. Need advice from friends. You all know what information I need please advise.

I would suggest that you stick to this Pejero for some time. Learn the art of driving and maintaining/improving the 4X4

Coming to the point...80 series is a great SUV but a good 80 will cost a lot as compared to a Nissan Patrol Y60. This is not a tricky question at all. A Nissan Patrol Y60 is as good as a TLC 80 if not better. The only difference I find is that 80 series is a little more refined as compared to a Y60.

Darwazay Alhamdulillah oonchay hain. No problems with Pajero as such, but it doesn't feel like hardcore 4x4 stuff if you know what I mean.

Actually pajero is not a difficult n expensive vehicle to maintain.

if u move to an LC 80, it will be a huge vehicle, a fuel guzzler, n expensive parts etc
if nissan patrol 4.2td is considered its a powerful vehicle, but very hard to find parts n maintain, much expensive than LC 80, nissan is also having 2.8rd engine which is not good in my opinion

now coming to point

if u want hardcore offroad vehicle than go for short wheel base vehicle like prado three door or somthing like that

they are meant for offroad the purpose u want

the all big suvs are just wagons not good on tough tracks etc

I must say a suzuki potohar is better than LC80 when it comes to offroad, see the offroading power of sumurai etc

Thanks for your detailed reply. My problem is that I have to have a 7 seater so SWB option is out. I don't do regular off-roading, but I like to travel a lot in areas where road clearance is important.

Coming to fuel consumption of TLC 80 and Nissan Y60, do they manage something close 8 kmpl in daily urban traffic? My daily run is almost 50 km, but it is mostly on signal free roads.

I mean that 80 series Land Cruiser is better equipped and feels compact in relation to a Nissan Y60, though they are the same size.

Nissan Patrol Y60 is more like a Truck.

Coming to the parts and maintenance issues, in my opinion it is a lot easier to work on a Nissan Patrol than a Pejero, a lot less complicated.
I do not have the first hand info but a friend told me that the parts for a Y60 are cheaper than a TLC80 but you need to do some home work on it yourself.

Coming to the Fuel consumption. If the engine and IP is in perfect condition it may touch 7.5 km/L but not sure as it is a 4.2 compared to a 2.5 you are currently using. On Highways may be 9.5 km/L

landcruiser 12v may give higway 8 and city 5
multivalve higway 10 city 7

they are max u can get
dun rely on owner manuals etc cz these are almost more than 20 years old vehicles now
