My Honda Civic 1998 Automatic - Low Fuel Efficiency :(

Hi There!

I have recently bought a 1998 Honda Civic EXi Automatic. The drive is excellent but giving me quite a rough time regarding fuel efficiency... Just giving me 5 ~7 KM/Litre mileage...

I took it to the mechanic for routine CHECKUP
the plugs were ok. No oil or petrol stains
air cleaner was ok
Air pressure in tires is standard
Silencer is clear and not giving any smell of "KATCHA DHOWAN"

So the last words of the experts were the car is ok... fuel average is ok... you must be mistaken regarding low mileage... So I once again filled my tank with 40litres fuel and it only gave me 229KM :S

Any suggestions or advice from you guys???

Have you cleaned the throttle body? What is your driving style? Do you drive with a light foot?
What is the tires size in your car?

have u changed the automatic transmission fluid and filter? besides that which engine oil are u using? besides that have u changed the fuel filter?

I sold mine just because of poor mileage, you cant get more than 10 from auto civic and thats with light foot

City mileage of civic is not really gud. I own a 2004 vti oriel 1.6 nd im city it gives between 8-12 depending upone traffic condition... How ever some days back on long it gave 440km in 30 ltr of petrol

I have a same issue with honda civic exi 1998 automatic 7 KM/Litre, i will check the automatic transmission fluid and filter. Second i change the engine the previous i use CNG as well. but new engine i cut off the CNG, the main issue i give me not good pick. Anyone guide me what is the actual problem with accelerator?

Which city are you from? i faced same issue my car was giving me 5-6Km/L i figured out by myself that O2 sensor was missing when i installed new 1 then it gave me 7-8Km/L(300-320km in full tank) in city. Also there's a map sensor which should be cleaned or require replacement then it should be replaced. However i went to Manual swap now it get approx 410KM with full tank in Karachi city.

Please mention your car's engine model

single vtec or 3 stage vtec?
i don't know about your driving habits if you are hard on accelerator then you will get low mileage also to much idling will kill mileage and in Karachi traffic condition are hell of a nightmare so better to check map sensor and don't expect beyond maximum 8-10km/L in city with auto trans.

honda civic exi not vtec, when i put a soft foot on accelerator, even on hill road it shows me difficult to climb on that road. i thing i have to check its throtle and its air mixing issue let me open it and service that part at home hope it make it better. i send the picture when i open it.

Honda Idle Air Control Valve, PCV and Throttle Body Cleaning i hope this job resolve my issue

I open my car throttle body and clean it i am attaching the images for your look i done all this by myself.
Too much carbon on throttle and also on IDLE air control valve i clean both.

you get any improved mileage after cleaning all parts? it's auto trans civic right?
