Right then... i've had the car for a few days now and worked out all the niggles that need fixing and what not.
First of all the oil desperately needs changing as it is literally black.
Secondly there is a slight water leak at the bottom radiator hose where it meets the thermostat housing. I note these hoses are red so most likely aftermarket. I'm going to replace with my old standard hose.
White smoke on startup when it is cold and it will stay like that and gradually disappear as the engine gets warmer. Once upto temp no smoke at all.
There is a rattle coming from somewhere. It sounds exactly like that bottom end rattle but seems to be coming from the side of the car rather than the front. It sounds like a loose heatshield or something so once it's up in the air i'll have a look around.
Cambelt needs changing
Rocker cover gaskets need doing but i'm not going to do them. Not really leaking,
Steering does not seem to self centre, if it is turned you need to physically turn it back. It won't just go to centre. I haven't a clue what this might be just something that needs fixing. The steering is not super light either so a bit of a tradeoff here.
Knock to front and rear over speed bumps. I believe they are the drop links which Conan gave some new ones with the car.
That's it really mechanically. Seems to boost fine however i've only used secondary on a handfull of occasions as i want to change the oil and cambelt before giving it any beans. The reason i'm not changing rocker gaskets is simply because i am still going ahead with a new engine build as i'm only a few parts away from having the whole lot assembled. It is NOT going to be a single turbo i'm sticking to the twins (maybe 25/27 if i can get them cheap enough). The reason i want a new engine on standby is simply because i don't trust this engine. Judging by the colour of the oil either it has been a long time serviced or there's a lot of goo in the engine.
Oh, after it's serviced the LPG conversion is going to be fitted. Only a cheap system though. A polish one. Yes, the LPG purists are going to come out with it should take a week to do it, cost ?3k etc however things are different in Brum Plus with my current mileage it should pay itself off within 6 months. A fancy system can go on my next 'keeper' Legacy.
