Although I do not own a vitz but since I could not digest the idea of a car that is known worldwide for its exceptional fuel economy being labelled as "yeh itna he ker sakti hay" by those who own it and by the mechanics they were visiting, and I was unable to understand what is the point of keeping such a car if you are ok with getting 10-12 km / litre which a well tuned 1800cc can easily achieve, I decided to take one such faulty car and look what's the cause of this hypothesis formed by hearsay. A colleague's ride with a 1KR-FE, which was giving around 10lm /litre was taken as the project car and some reading on forums was done to get some initial clues, based on which the following steps were taken :
1. CVT oil change was due and it was replaced as per the explanation in Ghuncha's post along with the gaskit for oil tray
2. Front CAT was removed which was found clogged
3. Plugs were replaced
4. Car was shifted to liquimoly semi synthetic 10-40w oil
5. Original air filter was installed
6. Brake service was performed and rear drums were found worn out and were replaced
7. Liqui moly's injector cleaner was poured in the fuel tank
8. Original oil filter was purchased for next oil change which would be earlier then the usual term for such oil
After the above steps, the car which went from isl to lhr through motorway in a full tank now does the same with half of it. It still is work in progress because the first flush of this oil would take out much sludge from the engine after which it would get the fresh oil with the original filter. And thanks to this thread a very important step has been identified i.e. the removal of second CAT which would be performed next. The fuel filter inspection is also due but hoping it would be ok because it is just too expensive
