A little intro is in order I guess, I am a beginner in the world of photography. Got my DSLR last year and it has been a wonderful learning experience. The equipment that I use for the time being is:

Bodies: Canon 550d
Lenses: 18-55 Kit lens, 50 1.8, 55-250 and 24-105 F4
Flash: 580ex ii, a cheap softbox and diffusers

Hand held at 1/30 sec? Steady hand!

Actually I have had good shots till 1/10th. But the keeper rate falls down quite a bit. Best thing to do is to fire a burst of shots, out of six shots two will be good enough.

Awesome shots Sir! I loved the lighter picture when you posted it for the first time. Saw it after a long time but the feeling is same... I tried to do it as well, but failed...

Let me own up, it was a total fluke. The camera was in portrait mode(LOL), and shot a burst of shots in that mode. I think the flash is necesarry for this type of shot.
