Umm...I don't know about your city, but in Karachi they are widely available in Regal. For online sources IMO i would suggest you pay a visit to

They have chinese brands and they ship to Pakistan free of cost. Payment method is online Credit Card. A couple of PW'ers have used it, so can be recommended. I too hope to use it for a flashgun, iA.

For proper lighting, portrait shoots and macro photography built-in flash wont work (i hate it btw) and never use it. Its very harsh. External sources like strobes are recommended. Either you can make your own strobe (madhouse had a thread where he used an energy saver and some cardboard) or buy a flashgun for this purpose. I suggest try the DIY if it doesnt meet your requirement, go for a proper flashgun.
There are various brands in the market. First are Nikon and Canon (very expensive), then are brands like Nissin (affordable and reliable) and thirdly there are 3rd party Chinese brands like Yongnou (very cheap). I personally suggest get your hands on a used one to try from a friend for some time. If it fulfills your need, get Nissin, if you want to go for cheaper option, go for Yongnou, more cheaper do the DIY.
(I might go for Yongnou. Recommended models are YN-465 and YN-560 and will have to get a wireless transmitter for that)
Given that your P&S has a hot shoe, otherwise only YN-465 would work as it has TTL.
IMO it should help. Trying it for yourself is the BEST option. For more information about flashguns and their compatibility, consult Khurram_aziz bhai. He is more into Portrait and Lighting techniques.

Umm....P&S would work great if it has Manual mode and i'm assuming urs has, so it would work great. Hot Shoe would be needed for wireless flash transmitter to work. If Photography is your passion and want to venture in indoor and portraits, get a decent DSLR.
Dont want to upgrade? Try the Softbox DIY. I will try it myself too, given that i get time off from my busy uni schedule
Ill try to find the link and post it here. Google for home-made DIYs for softboxes. It's just that they are not THAT effective and are no portable.

basically I want something for portraits. I usually shoot in 600-800ISO range in which the little pns shows noise. I want to bring down the ISO till 400max without using tripod. Any suggestions are welcome

Yup P&S are not that great in Low light. Using tripods for portraits is not that great as your shutter speed should be around 1/60th or more to avoid blur. Lowering the ISO means u should have DECENT lighting in the room. A powerful soft-box would help a LOT.
Use the camera by hand, grab a soft-box, decently place it in front of the subject.
Keep ISO as per ur request at 400
Keep shutter speed around 1/60th or 1 step lower if still need more light
Keep aperture biggest in case of low-light. if light is sufficient then 7 is great.

@yawar Thanks bro for the detailed reply. I am highly obliged. My PnS dont have a hot shoe so i think slave flash will only work. Softbox is actually not that feasible, i know Madhouse DIY but in home I get the pictures right so there's no need for it. The problem comes at night, concerts, and group photos. Let me google it out more.

i need some suggestions
i have a D5100 w/ kit lens 18-55

a friends wedding is coming up and im hired to do the photography services.
so the first thing that came to my mind was a prime lens. so ill soon buy a 50mm f/1.8G as soon as i get off my exams. What else should i go for? I'll be left with 21-25k after buying the prime. i have the following options....
-sell 18-55 and get 18-105
-buy a nikon flash prolly sb700
-buy a Yognou flash (much cheaper)
-but a new phone

i had the idea of tamron/sigma 17-50 f/2.8 but they lack in fast focus and i want to stick to Nikon Lenses atm...until it somehow astonishes me...
any comments or suggestions or any other options i can go for?

Flash is a must with good diffuser, soft box or reflectors.

so i think ill bundle the purchase with 50mm f/1.8G and sb700. d5100 doesnt support commander mode but sb700 would work like a charm on the camera. So i think that would suffice for the moment, when the need arises ill upgrade the body rather than buying pocket wizards or su800. thats my idea...

SB 700; if tight on budget then Nissin

Nissin has much better build quality than Yognou, these third party flashes reverse engineer the camera/flash communication; Nissin has option to upgrade firmware via USB when/where required and Nissin does TTL as good as Nikon or Canon (via a friend that does professional photography as part time)

the thing is that
nissin will cost something around 15-20k
sb 700 will cost around 26-32k or more
yognou will cost around 6-8k

I have limited budget and many options. So either i go cheap just to satisfy current need (the wedding shoot) and get a yognou and spend rest on a mobile phone or i make a one time wise investment and go sb 700. it would work off camera with the commander mode via built in flash after some tweaks which i just found.
ill definitely check the nissin too out. But first ill see if enough cash is left after the prime is bough :-#

So this is the Phase 2 upgrade. Phase 1 upgrade couldn't take place due to shortage of stock so went for Phase 2. Phase 1 scheduled for tomorrow inshAllah

Phase 1 Upgrade

Upgrade from AF-S 18-55 VR to Nikkor 18-105mm VR lens.

Was bargaining for the prime so bumped the question of 18-105 price. He quoted me 28k. And then the deal turned out to be pretty good and I went for it. It is a decent upgrade that will assist me in the future and this will be my last zoom lens untill i have enough cash to get me a f/2.8 telephoto

Along with that I also got a new bag and a Filter for 'just' protection purposes esp dust and bumps

Price of 18-105mm: 28k
Sale of 18-55mm: 7.5k
Bag: 2.5k
UV Filter (67mm): 1.5k
Cash Paid (after bargaining): 22k

I don't know if I paid extra or got it extremely cheap, all I care is that I needed this stuff after a long wait and all of it is worth whatever I pay.

inshAllah tomorrow is Phase 1 Upgrade day and will get the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G.

This was the only chance at the moment that i had cash to buy all this. So instead of going for loose options i went for future upgrades. Initially thought of upgrading body but D7000 is still very expensive and out of budget. Hence a combo of 18-105mm + 50mm f/1.8G will be classic given the limited budget. Yup all of it is exhausted
I had to buy a new mobile but I guess this investment will be worth it. Will have to let go of the flash or will borrow from someone for the event. Rest I will be more than happy after i get the G-Prime tomorrow.
