My santro heating-up on a REGULAR basis!

Salam all,

I have a Santro Club on me, the car has done 14K kms at this point. I have had a great time driving the car and strongly believe for a 1000 CC it performs remarkably well.

Just recently I have started to witness a problem that is pain in the ass now! As it stands, I cannot drive the car without the A/C turned on as it would heat up. Apparently, the fan doesnot trigger at the appropriate temperature, pulling the temperature needle very close to the bloody HOT area. This is the point where I turn A/C on, the fan starts immediately taking the car temperature to normal and it continues to be like that till the A/C is funcational. As soon as it is turned off, the bizzare pattern repeats!

Afore-mentioned text explains the problem but its pertinent that I quote a bit of repair history of the car, that might help you guys diagnose the acual problem.

In the cars early days, once it stopped by itself and the engine would just not start The next day I discovered that the car would not start on petrol and ran perfect on CNG. I took it to Hyndai Motors based in Thokar and got it inspected. Witnessed two engineers with conflicting views, one would say that the ECM needs to be checked and the other would not buy his idea and said that the car wirings needs to be assured off before placing hands on ECM.

And hey presto! the problem was fixed, and the car would start on petrol and convert to CNG, Great stuff. I was charged Rs. 500 for the repair and when questioned about the issue the latter engineer goes:

"Aap ki GRIP main masla tha, us main 3/4 wires hoti hain jo engine main ja ker kehin lagti hain, un main sey aik wire sai attach naighn hoi vi thi isi liya poora current naighn tha jatta, aab set ker di hai, geuine fault tha"

From that day, the car has been acting up on me bigtime! Every now and then it would heat-up slightly, I would see the temperature needle cross the 2nd dot but would come back sooner than later, but it definitely was crossing that 2nd dot on a regular basis.

The situation grew worse with time till this stage when I cant get drive the car without the A/C turned on. I have been to the same service center and they say they car has no problems, for some funny reason the car would not heat infront of an engineer and would as soon as I took it back. Anyways, I got it thoroughly checked last week and the engineer goes

"Sir masla dhoond liya hai, GRIP ki aik wire main play hai on both ends, woh hissa jo GRIP main lagta hai aur woh wala bhi jo engine main, he took a glue and as per him fixed the problem"

I drove away safely for 4 days and the bloody problems started to recurr again. I am sick and tired of this problem really and need to get it sorted as a matter of urgency. Can experts especially Santro owners please drop me a line with regards to this matter. Do you reckon the engineer have diagnosed the problem correctly? If yes, may be they could not properl fix the play in that GRIP wire? Desperate for suggestions.

take it to a proper electrician who will check ure wires and CHECK the relay to see why the fan is NOT coming on when it should. also check the thermostat which is supposed to tell the fan when to turn on.
also its a stupid question but did u check the coolant level in ure car?? or did u check to see if it has any gotten air lock?? that happens when a quantity of air gets trapped inside the water hoses and does not allow circulation of the water.. check all the above 1st..

The coolant level is awrite! They checked it each time I took the car to that service station.

I am not informed about the air locks, how shall I get that checked? I think if that were an issue, they would have verified it before getting down to the concrete task of checking the car wiring, do you not think?

you obviously havent been to the COMPANIES before.. worthless bunch of idiots i always say....

check all these things, but the thing is that u say ure car heats up when u put the A/c on.. so i think the problem lies with ure relay wiring..

see as soon as the a/c starts up.. the 2nd fan is supposed to START up.. u can check this ureself.. get someone to sit in the car and turn the a/c on and check to see if the fan works... if it dosent then there is ure problem.. if it does work then run it for a while and see if it shuts down after a while... both of them are connected to the relay... it could be dead or it could heat up and stop working....

check all of them out..

I suspect it is something to do with the cooling system i.e.
A. radiator fan is not rotating at proper RPM
B. Thermostat
C. Water body is clogged

The problem is that the fan is not triggered at the right temp causing the car to heat-up. Since the fan is programmed to start automatically with A/C, I turn the A/C on and the temp comes back to normal.

The GRIP that I have mentioned earlier is responsible for giving all signals to ECM, including the one to turn the fan on a set temperature (I think it's 92 for Santro, can't say with certitude really). Now since one of the GRIP wires has a play in it, it doesnot always send the signal to the ECM. That is why at times the car would not heat up with the A/C turned off. But as i said in the previous thread, it now heats up on a regular basis. I am anticipating that the engineer didnot fix the play of the said wire properly, as for 4 complete days, the car didnot heat up. It unfortunately has started to do so again, and I feel that the wire did stick in properly for those 4 days and has the play in it again.

I will go to the same engineer and get it checked, just to see if that play he fixed in the wire still remains FIXED!
If he replies in the positive, that is when I need to get the bloody wiring checked!

lol .. strange problem .. anyone can fix it.. just buy new automatic fan switch .. its not working and ac's fan is cooling the car .. simple

Try connecting the radiator fan directtly to the battery wothout the auto stuff(It always keeps runnin wether needed or not)

HEY u hav done the MILAGE 14,000.

Go at DEWAN FAROOQ WORKSHOP and make the problem solve there.

As ur car is still under warranty.

chk the heating sensor connected with the radiator fan.
also change coolant coz 14 k is enough for paki cars, u need to change, the level doesnt drop but u need to change the coolant.

no colant prob .. jab ac on karte hain tou coolant new ho jata hai ???
open hood and check fan is working or not .. if it is not then direct the fan as prescribed by a member .. if its working directly ( never leave it direct connected forever ), means your auto fan switch needs replacement ... thermostat doesnot open the fan but stops water from circulating in radiator. after the required temp , it allows the water to circulate .. any electrition can check fan switch ..

Can you please check the Fan ?
Start your car at your home, DO NOT turn the AC ON, wait until the Engine gets hot, If the Fan does not, Open the Hood, If you Dont hear any Fans Noise even when the Temperature Needle is Over Half the Temperature guage, then its your Fan and Nothing else.
Automatic Switch for Fan should be replaced OR Wiring should be checked.
No big deal !

probably the switch is not working fine which delays the activation of the normal fan function

I had a similar kind of problem. The temp needle got towards redline very fast and surprisingly its without AC. But the needle droped down to cool slowly, it hapened a couple of times without any reasom , imean no AC or reagrdless of ouside temp , i talked it vhen i was getting tuning at Hyundai sajjad, they said its ok , it hapens car engine doenst get any harm, its only becasue of some time ECU need to warm up engine more.

Dont know if the its really a problem or not.

Well i had a similar problem but my problem was started because when the engine was changed the mechanic forgot to attach the fan to the automatic switch so it was heating up regularly goin near to red area.

I think you have to go to a good Electrician and get the auto fan checked it should start at half or little below half point..

I wont recommend getting ur fan direct i mean its a new car yaar koi Suzuki fx tu hai nai.

Looks Like Thermostat Is not working properly.....!
het it checked...it must activate Fans when needle is somewhere in middle of guage....!

i have cuore eco ..my a/c runs perfect when the car is in driving position..but when its stuck in traffic jam the heat needle goes in the middle but not up than middle and the ignition key gets hot n a/c drops its cooling what should i do??dies it has n e relation with cng n engine tunning??
