My XLi giving horrible fuel average...off late

The latest average of my 1300cc Corolla XLi is 8kms/litre, city driving without A/c. Model 2005, Mileage 10,000 kms.

Background: Last month had refueled it from Shell pump, F-6 Super Market, Islamabad. The car's idle speed went erratic and used to shut down on normal idle, irrespective of temeperature. Pumping accelator gave diesel like black smoke from the exhaust.

Went to Toyota Islamababad Motors. The chota checked the air filter and a small element attached to the snorkel. Cleaned both. Said never go the F-6 Shell again. They mix kerosin oil.

I went to ENERCON PSO Melody for a checkup. He hooked up the engine with his system and said everything is normal. He said never go to Shell F-6. They have tampered with the meters.

Now the big question is, if everything is normal, why am i getting an average of 8 whereas I used to get 12.75 kms/liter. Can anyone suggest a remedy, apart from changing the fuel station which I have but the results are the same.

Strange coz i get my cars refueled from shell f-6 super since last many years.. never had any probs of mileage etc.. do change plugs.. may be it'll get better..

Dear Hasnain, I too fill petrol in ma Xli 2005 from F-6 Shell and quality and quantity both satisfying as I always montior the miliage. My average comes around (at least) 14 km/lit on a very liberal estimate, mean it could be more than this (without AC city driving). What tyre/rim size u have got, and are tyres properly inflated?

I have stock rims with 185/65/14 Yokohama ASPEC A300 tyres.

I have stock tyres. If the problem is not with the shell station then it could be with the ENERCON setting because I had done that 2 months back. This thing cropped up after his tinkering. There is no use taking it to Toyota Motors because all they do is normal checkup and abnormal bill. I intend to show it to some expert of fuel. Any suggestions..

I have noticed that ENERCON (Jinnah PSO) had just evaluation copy of software on their computer. They ruined my Khyber. If Toyo Islamabad (Aabpara( is not good, why not give a try to Toyo Capital (i-9) what about them are they equally bad or what? But IMC boasts that their 3S dealers have proper equipment. Plus also check if the aircleaner filter is genuine coz there are lot of fake selling in the market

@ autophile. Thanks for the suggestion. I intend to take it to Toyota I-9 sometime during this week, whenever I can skip office for 2 hours at least. Its a nightmare going there.
The air filter is still the original one that came from the factory since trhe mileage is around 10,000 kms, no body recommended its replacement.

u can consult Haji Ishaq who used to work for Toyota and now runs his own workshop at peshawar road. i have lost his number with my mobile. will tell u tomorrow after consulting another friend.
He is an expert in electricals especialy toyotas with excellent overall command on mechanicals as well.

A general check up from an autp enthusiast accountant like me will help as well coz our own corolla gives 13 easily and when pluge are changes it gets even better and then normalize at 13 again

Looks like either O2 or MAP sensor is malfunctioning causing rich unburnt petrol coming out of the silencer....

@ Spectra. You are right. I was extremely busy with the most unimportant things but for bosses it seems if they are not done, heavens would fall.

I think the best pump for most efficient fuel economy is the PSO one on constitution avenue. YOu should check that one, maybe your car will do better then.

Yes u have to get filled u r tank from PSO once...the rubbish quality of Shell's petrol is found almost everywhere in PAKISTAN..I myself tested the Shell's petrol in different cities but the problem accours everywhere..like low millage/little,black smoke,low pickup,take a while to start etc...So i will sugest u to alwayz get u r tank filled from some PSO stations..

completely true when i was vacationing last summer encoubtered the same problem, confronted the thieves about it and got my money back,plus free gas!!!!im surprised they continue to still do it,metert tapmpering galore

Allow ME to tell you how to get there. From the Deawoo Roundabout going towards the airport, take a U turn from the first TRAFFIC LIGHT, not before. as you move back, you'll see a service lane to your left sloping downwards. it's the second last shop with open gates. you'll see a chemist's shop before that. the numbers are:

The gentleman really is a very sensible person and has very efficient, hardworking and honest staff. Haji saab himself is honest enough in telling you of their 5% commission in parts supplied by them.

I presume my Haji Ishaq is Spectra therefore I would take the car to him rather than going all the way to Pindi for having the same job done. Will meet Spectra on fist available opportunity. At present the situation is like this...

Haji sure did fix my cars black smoke problem today. Checked for error codes. did some serious adjustment to the air fuel mixture. Iddling restored back to normal. Hope i get a decent fuel average. My 20v was taking fuel like american muscle cars before.
