I searched on the internet a little more.....

Incorrect facts.

You will not die just by looking at it. But the radiation will kill you in some time if you are not a safe distance away (not immediately).

It weighs maybe a few tons or so, most of it is not nuclear waste, it's concrete.

And it was not difficult to photograph because it destroyed the camera. It's just that the radiation messed with the film, that's all.

Here is another photo of the same:

The photo is not 1986...It's much later....but still. The original picture you posted kind of suggests you would vaporize or something....

It depends on the dose rate and the exposure time. This location was deadly in 1986 and still remains dangerous. High radiation flux can affect electronic circuits and equipment, not just photographic film, unless specially radiation-hardened equipment is deployed.

In the picture I have posted, you can clearly see that the thing is in total maybe around 0.5m3 (1mx1mx0.5m), using a sqaure base of 1m and a height of 0.5m (it looks in reality alot less than that). Now the original pic says "hundreds of tons". Lets take 500 tons = 500,000kg. With that density should be atleast 500,000/0.5 kg/m3 = 1,000,000 kg/m3. For comparison, plutonium has less than 20,000 kg/m3. For further comparison the core of the Sun is 33,000?160,000kg/m3 according to an estimate according to wikipedia. So if that really was the case, you should have nuclear fusion and taray zameen pay.
