Naran on Nissan Kix

Stopover was for 20-25 minutes where I decided to push the Kix non stop from Bhera to Abbottabad like I always do with my XLI. It was mashAllah doing well with chilling AC so I cancelled Kix's rest trip at Chakri.

From Lahore to Lillah, other cars were overtaking Kix as I kept the speed upto 100-105 (my usual speed even with XLI) but situation reversed when I entered salt range. I kept the gear at D mode (& 2W)to see if I need to downshift like XLI or 1000cc Boon (same engine of Vitz).

To my surprise, this little SUV started showing a lot of turbo assisted muscles by started climbing steep patches/turns and by overtaking other cars.

It crossed salt range like a breeze in D without a slight need to shift to D2 or L.

Normally in automatics you do not need to shift to 2 or L for hill climbing. Doing this may overheat the auto tranny. 2 or L gears should be only used where you need extra engine braking like on steep downhill slopes.

Thanks for the advice. I dont have much knowledge about auto tranny. Had driven Boon AT to Naran for the first and last time and it was not joyful experience in the mountains.....I had to switch to 2 quiet often to climb. It had done genuine 65000. What might be the reason?

I will share Kix response at salt range's downhill slopes.

I left motorway at bhurhan interchange and on GT/Mansehra road I was again "izzutdar" with a small vehicle..... turbocharger was giving very nice boost. Kix was overtaking aggressively even her big brothers Surfs/Pajs that a lot of locals own there. Reckless driving is not my style but I was on test drive....

Before haripur, fuel gauge showed that I may not be able to reach Abbottabad Cantt where I always need to add about 80% petrol to fill the fuel tank of XLI. Added fuel of rs 1000 at haripur and continued to Abbottabad where both car and I got our tanks filled.

My XLI 2010 with AC gives about 15km average between Lahore/Abbottabad and Kix gave 12.88 with AC on all the time.

I had 40 minutes stay in a restaurant in Abottabad for namaz and lunch....yummy chicken haleem with botul and juicy/freshly baked roghani naan....AlhumduLillah.

From Abbottabad I resumed nonstop journey to Naran....AC was turned off and cabin was filled with smell of reserve 10 lit petrol.

Anybody can advise how to avoid this?

Immediately after Balakot bridge starts the short steep climb where I switched to D2 first time on the trip. Shortly after that I was back to D and have to stop at a check post where they checked the car documents and my nic. There one also has to pay rs 100 jugga tax re tourism fee.

Between Kaghan and Naran, there were three more glaciers and a number of fast flowing streams even though it was after usar and temperature was dropping.

This is the reason I always go to Naran 2 weeks after road is open. There were two guys in Naran bazar who were looking for a mechanic to fix their car....something underneath was broken.

This car struggled at this point and was almost stuck when the driver has to offload his family in "kichur and gaara" on the ramp....expensive shoes were dipped in gaara.

Here I decided to engage 4x4, but after offloading, that car somehow managed to pass. I continued in 2W mode and Kix easily passed mainly due to good ground clearance.

Problem:
The smell is leaking from the can because it is leaking fumes.
Solution: Get a canister designed to carry fuel.

I used to carry one in my car in UK, and it was double walled to avoid breaking and leakage of fuel, all plastic of hard variety. The cover was sealed using some rubber o-rings, so any liquid or fumes won't leak.

The canister was good for 5 or 7 liters of fuel, if I am not wrong. You should be able to find something similar in local trekkers/auto accessories shops.
