Check you Cat and Sensors. They WILL be requiring a thorough cleaning, I'm sure.

Fully clean the fuel system
fuel tank ( fuel sending unit inside tank )
fuel lines ( blow the air )
check fuel transfer pump & make sure that pump working properly ( electrically / mechanically working ) some time pump stop working ( reducing fuel supply ) while car / engine running in high RPM
make sure all the Air hose install properly( Clean air filter ) clamped etc.( fuel,air poor mixture causing low power/pickup etc )
fuel injector test / calibration
100% correct ignition timing

above are part of periodic maintenance, after this all test / maintenance if your car have same issue then i can say inlet / exhaust valve needs to be check ( compression test ) because if inlet valve not closing properly at the time of power stroke that mean air fuel mixture leaking from combustion chamber at the time of compression / power stroke.

AOA, as u said yourself you have seen cars older than yours which r stil runnning good. exactly my point as well! u c honda's r not like shitty suzuki n r pretty reliable, if u take care of them. i still believe that ur prob lies in the fuel pump. Just get the problems solved and then take care of the car, believe me 245k odo is nothing for honda. My cousin has 98 civic on cng, has 450k plus on the odo n the engine is not overhauled once! all he does is take care of the car

hi octane can only clean your fuel system to a small degree,so yes u can have a 50/50 mix of hi octane n regular premium. but i doubt it will do any good cux ur problem lies somewhere else. n yes hi octane can add another 50 odd km per tank but the mileage in terms of cost wont change cux the extra km added to the mileage will at best compensate for the extra paid for the hi octane

what if compression test done,tapets adjusted,TB changed,pump changed and still car is sluggish?mind u i got the fuel filter opened and out came lot of keechar....is tank cleaning must now?

Yes, as we know fuel quality in pumps so fuel tank should be clean at least once in a year Or if you can find fuel strainer ( Very fine ) like a jar that we can fix properly into fuel tanker neck then no need to clean tank only clean strainer time to time.( Fuel gun can damage strainer if we hitting a gun to strainer especially plastic strainer ) do not forget to clean fuel lines you can blow the air from pipe to tank then clean the tank
Engine tappets ( Valve lash ) setting required on every periodic maintenance ( engine tuning ) especially if your facing starting problem low acceleration,you/ mechanic should check engine systematically you said about Timing belt change etc.
1- timing belt need to change when T Light turn on OR 100000 KM and this belt for for engine timing.
2- ignition timing is another timing.
3- carburetor setting / cleaning / vacuum pipes in place no any pin hole
also check / ask your friends / colleague for any reputable fuel station who providing a good fuel quality and quantity.
any type of smoke from exhaust like Grey,Black,White etc..?
make sure car clutch working properly adjusted properly ( Manual transmission )
in Auto Torque convertor can cause a low pulling etc
break adjustments ( all the wheels must be free when you releasing a hand / foot break,even if one wheel have tight break so this can effect in to performance.
system should be check very carefully by mechanic when performing a maintenance of machine..

I remember, one of my relative took the car to some maintenance shop to get the compression test done and I believe he said that the reading was on the brink of the lower side. I wonder what that means and whats its remedy!

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately even at the Honda's designated pit stops, all that mechanics prefer is to go for tuning in order to resolve the issue but I believe that the problem lies somewhere else and wonder who will be right guy to resolve it!

If engine have no issue working well then we can say that compression testing machine/Gauge not working properly / not calibrated

Overall the engine looks and works fine...but the reading of compression test was on the lower side...

brother sick of my exi manual 2005 car runs pretty fine on straight roads but as soon as it has to be pushed up the hill(those living in bahria town rawalpindi phase 5 side would be familiar with ACE academy or civic centre hill which are hard to be believed as hills) car gives no power i mean it only sounds ghoon but doesnt accelerate forward especially in 3rd gear as soon as straight road comes i accelerate again.

Well not only tank cleaning but also the whole fuel system because the fuel not only touches the fuel tank on it journey from the station to the cylinder. Even if u clean the filter it wont be of any help. Plus your injectors will get damaged, probably will be already, due debris filled fuel.

And If you havent changed your tank before, keep in my mind that civic 2005 PKDM has a metal tank. If it's rusted, don't even think of getting it cleaned no matter what your mechanic say. The rust will return sooner than later. I'd recommend get the fuel tank replaced with the JDM tank which is of fiber glass / plastic.

Chinese metal tank will cost around 4k, whereas JDM fiberglass will cost you around 10k with its own fuel pump cux the JDM uses a slightly different pump assembly

try one more thing open up the exhast header from engine side and pour some acid in it.........assemble it back and then rev the car for few minutes until all white smoke is gone........that will open up chocked silence......mind u no need to get silencer from parts its waste of money....the procedure im telling does the some thing........i have done it and it has made my car lot more responsive than before

Yes 245k odo is a hi number but then again if a car is not maintained properly it can give you headaches even at 45k. I still believe Honda's and Toyota's are reliable car makers so 245k wont be that a problem unless of course you treat it badly. You can start with the simplest of the solution and proceed to the bigger ones accordingly. Esa na ho k bacha baghal mai ho aur dhandora shehr mai peta jae So check coils, then inspect tappet clearance and fuel pump end pressure. Hopefully you'll get the relief soon

Just buy fuel injector and use during the filling of petrol tank. Get good quality petrol fuel injector
