Need assistance regarding whether I should take mg to hunza or not?

I'm planning to go north in couple of days and I bought mg hs 2023 under 5k driven.
Can someone please advise on its performance in high-altitude areas? Additionally, I'd like to know about the availability of high-octane fuel, as it's required for my vehicle. I've also heard concerns about the gearbox overheating when driving uphill. Any feedback or guidance would be greatly appreciated!"

Why do you need precautions on a new suv? Does the manufacturer prohibit hill climbing?

You:ll most likely be fine. Drive smart using common sense. If you have manual shift option in hilly areas (paddle or console shift), use it.

Can also Google do's/don'ts of dct in order to get some good info.

Use fuel from good stations. Shouldn't have an issue with reg fuel if high octane is not available, modern cars can adjust for it. Just fill back up with high octane when available.

Drive carefully, don't abuse the vehicle and you'll be fine. People take 40 year old vehicles to hunza, your new MG will do just fine.

Imagine a manual transmission car with a clutch.

When does a clutch take the most beating? If you slip it or in stop/go traffic, or on a hill start.

Use this same logic with dct. Don't creep with foot off and on brake in traffic, don't stop on hills, and if you need to, quickly engage the gas pedal, don't let the car sit their with it's own load. All of these scenarios put a load on the clutches, causing them to slip and overheat.

This is what I meant when I said use common sense.

You should have an owners manual. Read it. There is a lot of excellent information straight from MG in there.

Just do a quick pre-trip check and your good.

You only have 5k Kms so it's brand new. But still, check your lights, wipers, tires, tire pressure, lugnut torque, have a quick peek underneath.....most importantly check your spare, jack and tool kit is in there.

Have a check of all fluids including oil, coolant, brake fluid etc.

Top up your washer fluid.

Check out your belt/pulleys if you can see them.

Just a quick peek at the major things before you leave. I do this once a week on my daily driver and every time I leave for a road trip on our SUV. I'm a diy'er so I have some tools, a jump-pack and some really basic spare parts I've accumulated just in case.

It may be overkill, but I don't want to be caught in the middle of nowhere without being able to get myself out of that situation.

To the above, I'd add use the hill descent feature if things get tricky. Read up on how to use it. Practice before actually using it on a hill.

Not designed for going down hill at high speeds. It is for negotiating very sharp switch backs if you need to

My uncle just went up north in his Prius. Stopped for chai at a place with a steep descent down by the water.

He smartly parked on the road and walked down. There was an mg fully loaded with family and luggage who was leaving.

They started and the mg was fwd and simply would not make it up the hill. Front tires were spinning and he was revving the piss out of it. Eventually, he had to let everyone out and he slowly creeped up the hill.

Your MG HS should handle high altitudes fine, but you might lose some power. High-octane fuel might be scarce in remote areas, so plan ahead. To avoid gearbox overheating on hills, drive steadily, use the right mode, and monitor the temperature. Safe travels!
