In my opinion the only galant worth buying is the V6 because that's all it offers now. Interior is 90s design so feels congested. Steering wheel sits too low. By comparison a lancer is much more spacious and has a much more pleasant interior. Boot size is the same. I'm 6 feet tall and my head touches galant's roof be it the front seat or back seat. The steering wheel also touches my legs even on the highest setting. No such issues with lancer.
For me, given the above, the only attraction for galant is the V6. Base models just aren't my calling.
It will be reliable no doubt but there's a catch.............the car needs to be up to date on all mechanical work, oils and fluids which most cars aren't. So you might need to put in a big one time expense to get the car in very good running condition (to undo the neglect by previous owners). If you can put in the time and effort then go for it.
