1.5 Million might and you a mint 3 door pajero but not a mint 3 door prado.
Both are reliable, both are mid sized SUVs. From what i remember, you do your fair share of Off-roading too. An original 1 Kz 3 door prado will be difficult to find, hence i shall not bring that into the equation. A pajero is a good suv, given you give it original parts and have a mechanic who understands the vehicle, for this reason alone, clean and maintained ones are at much higher price then the usual junk available.
Lets just cut to the chase, a 2.8 3L prado should be your first choice, Rugged machine. A 2.8 Pajero should be your second option.
Pajero has more abundance of parts these days, and since prados are decreasing, their parts are becoming expensive.
The advantage of the 3L is, it being powerful yet economical. Hence it should be first priority, if can't be found, source a clean pajero then, they are heavy on fuel but get the job done as well.
