Need experts advice about Honda civic timing belt

Listen, I bought a second Civic around 120k driven, so I don't really know if the timing belt has been changed or not.

Any idea how can I find out if it has been changed by the previous owner or not?

TIMING BELT SHOULD BE CHANGED AFTER 100000KM AND GEAR OIL SHOUDNT BE CHANGED BECAUSE IN KARACHI IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND A GENUINE TRANSMISON OIL AND IT DOESNT NEED TO BE CHANGED

ignorant people like u dont change the gear oil and get their prosmatec towed from motorway due to transmission failure.

please change the gear oil first thing. dont use it for more hten 40,000 km's

timings belts usually last 100,000 kms. confirm from manual.

i doubt the car in question has a timing belt...it came with a timing chain i suppose which requires no adjustment or replacement

what ever do not ignore transmission oil.....................i change my civic prosmatic transmission oil every 40,000 kms...and timing belt every 60,000 kms..

I have a 2005 EXI PROSMATEC, Honda South changes Timing belt @ 80K and Transmission/gear oil @ 40K KM.

I think its a pretty decent interval.

lol - I love it when people come and say dont change transmission oil - it will ruin your tranmission - its very like saying, dont change your engine oil at all - you wont find the factory oil again.

@Xulfiqar....all who says that dont change ur transmission oil are correct to some extent....actually some manufacturers give life time guarantee for their transmission oil so for that cars one doesnt need to change ATF.....as far as Honda is concerned they dont give life time guarantee in Pakistan so civics in pakistan do need ATF to be changed but yes DONT change your car ATF by roadside mechanics always do that through dealers....

I have a got a honda civic 1998 model, and its done around 106000 km, do i need to do a big service on the car? cuz i went mechanictoday, they told me i need to change my timing belt and some other service? i thought honda civic can last longer more than 100000 km easy.
please help guys.

u must change transmission oil before you get any transmission failure , hondas do have transmission oil check dipstick so do look it and about timing belt i think it last for 100,000 kms . Wait for "cylestine" to shed his knowledge on this forum

for sure your car will last a lot more than 100,000 kms if you take care of it . Changing timing belts and other things are maintenance of car so u should change them and give your car a long life

Hello,
We have a new Radian XTSL that my husband is about to install RF in our 1997 Honda Accord (well, this evening, that is). Obviously it will be a seatbelt install. It will be outboard, passenger side. I know that the Radian can be a tricky install, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about installing it in an older Accord and could give us any tips (if there are any special tips, that is). For instance, what problems are we likely to encounter? Will we need pool noodles or anything else to get the angle right? Should we tether it RF, and if so, what should we attach the tether to?
Any advice is appreciated. I just don't want my husband to get really frustrated with the installation. We've only ever had a Chicco KeyFit, a Britax Marathon and a Britax Regent, all of which are fairly easy installs. (Well, the Regent is a beast, but it isn't tricky, just massive!)

i own a honda civic 2003 pros i changed its timming belt at 100000 km and transmission oil at 80,000 km.... u msut change transmission oil at 80,000 and put genuine honda transmission oil in it and enjoy for next 50,000 km....
keep in mind that when u will change timming belt do change the barring but get this work done by some qualified and experinced mechanic bcz honda timming belt change is a bit tricky...

Always change the transmission oil on time recommended by the manufacturer else it will eventually eat up your transmission. Never listen to mechanics who advise not to change it. Same applies for gear oil in manual cars.

I'll tell you something - when the W210 MB came out fresh, MB said the transmission is filled for life - hmm really - infact they did not even provide a dipstick - and to check the fluid you need to buy an MB tool which is just a fancy dipstick to check the fluid level.

Fast forward to 15 years into the cars life. MB recommends changing of the transmission fluid at every 160,000 kms now in the same old cars as they failed. Filled for life should be questioned by the manufacturer to what they have determined LIFE is. This was brought into light by most European taxi drivers - as they have clocked more than 800,000 kms on their cars and their first transmissions failed at 200,000 and never failed again because they changed fluid and filter afterwards..

In a Honda its a complete stupid goofball design, because to replace the transmission filter you need to completely disassemble the transmission.

Changing transmission fluid is easy - and IMO every person who holds a Drivers license should be able to do it.
