Need guidance about Civic 2005 Exi Prosmetic engine oil Issue

I bought a honda 2005 exi automatic transmission 1 month ago with total mileage of 115,000 km. The previous owner didn't change the engine oil when it was due because he wanted to sell the car. He told me that he had used Havoline Motor Oil SAE 20W-50 previously so I immediately got the oil changed and again put in havoline 20W-50. After driving the car for 500-600 kms i checked the oil and its already very dirty (dark clr). I have now done some research on pakwheels forum and now realized that this oil is probably not suited for this engine as its too thick and overall the engine is still in pretty good condition. No seals etc.
I have the following questions.
1) Should i change the engine oil now as some people are telling me that changing engine oil is risky. When should i change it?
2 ) Which engine oil should i use? According to my research 10w-40 should be suitable for this engine. Which oil is better e.g
Havoline Motor Oil Extra SAE 10W-40 API SL Mineral Oil
ZIC X7 10W-40 API SN grade
Shell helix hx6 10w-40 semi synthetic or Hx7 5w-30
TOTAL QUARTZ 5000:API SN SAE 10w40

I think any good brand 5w30 will be suitable for your engine. Also many people will discourage you to shift to thinner oil, ignore them.

Go for 5w30 or 10w40 or 10w30. but please only go for fully synthetic oil. I am using zic x7 10w40. Check online your engine spec and features for recommended engine oil for your car.

Brother I would suggest either 10w-30 by Havoline, or 10w-40 by ZIC, and if engine health is perfect, then Total Quartz 9000 Future Series 5w-30 would be best.

If engine seals are perfect, there are no oil leakages, etc. Then perform engine flush before switching to new engine oil grade and brand.

engine flush ka keya scene hota ? you mean new oil dal k 100,200kms chala k change karna ya pour engine oil without closing the bottom nut of pan ?

Before changing the oil pour engine flush in engine and run the vehicle for 10 min (keep it start but no driving) and then drain the old oil. Add new oil and you are done.

You pour engine flush fluid in the engine by opening the engine oil filler cap. You start the engine and let it idle for at least 15 minutes, during this process, you NEVER drive your car. After 15 minutes, you take off the engine oil drain bolt, and let engine oil (which contains engine flush material, sludge / gunk, but depending, etc.) drain. After that, pour in the new, fresh engine oil, and enjoy driving'

And an important thing: After engine flush, change of oil filter is a MUST!

Going for engine flush is a personal choice, its preferable thing but not compulsory, and I usually recommend it when going for change of engine oil grade / viscosity (may be engine oil brand too), so as to remove everything related to old engine oil grade (may be sludge / gunk too).

You can use Liqui Moly, STP, Amsoil, etc.

Use 20w50 for the time being if youve recently poured in. Dont waste it.

Next time pour Total 5w30 Fully synthetic.

No need to do engine flush. The engine oil has all the necessary detergents in it to keep the engine clean.
Change oil at 5k kms twice to clean out any sludge (Which should not be there if oil changes were regular even with 20w50)

From then onwards change oil at 7-8k kms interval.

I have a 185000 driven Exi on 5w30 with 8k kms oil change interval. No oil loss and good results.

i wonder why people so worried about leaking seals.

its just normal gaskets and shaft oil seals. replacement always done on old vehicles, old pumps, old machinery

I don't know why mechanics are reluctant to change leaking seals or first check seals if oil is losing?

I guess a bit of sludge is there because the previous owner didn't change oil on time, may be thats why new oil became so dirty so early. People usually don't recommend using fully synthetic oil in older cars with mileage above 100k, dont know why?

Dont listen to such people. Youre not running an old Bedford truck.

Api SN grade oil is perfectly fine for this series engine.

Regular oil changes will clear out any sludge. Dont worry about it.
