I have a Mini Pajero non turbo 660cc Automatic 2000 Model. Need recommendation/advise on a mechanic or place where I can get a more powerful engine installed along with related components (transmission. differential etc). Heard it can accept a 1100cc engine and open to other larger suggestions as well. My current mechanic keeps insisting I keep it stock or sell it to him. Which is why need a recommendation.
Used to be our daily driver but have now replaced it with a Swift (Automatic) for daily use and have a Civic X at home as well for occasional use. Despite being a third car the Mini Pajero is indispensable for me since there are situations where only it comes in really handy for eg heavy rains or when have to go areas with thin streets or too much traffic, its incredibly easy to park as well. Considered replacing it with another mini pajero or 660cc Jimny but not worth spending the difference when the power is same. Mira and Move I found not as powerful in drive.
The standard engine has a parts availability issue and Kabuli parts that are available are already pretty worn out. Have had this car for more than 12 yrs now and in the past 3 years its now on its third standard 660cc engine which is why I do not want to keep it stock now. Original had a timing belt break and pistons got bent, replacement parts werent available so was forced to change engine, the replacement engine was weak and after almost a year car started giving too many vibrations. After repeated visits to various mechanics who couldnt fix it, had to go back to my original mechanic who got the the engine changed again saying a crankshaft issue. The third engine although the mileage is 8-10km/l, I don't like its sound and afraid it might break down again, so its about time I got the car upgraded to something with more power and ease of parts availability so could even be driven even on longer trips.
Existing suspension is fine now and had a complete suspension change 8 months ago from ShahJee. But also interested in a suspension upgrade as kabuli shocks last almost a little over year before giving out. I suspect a new heavier engine would need better shocks.
As you can see from condition in picture, very keen on maintenance.
