My first preference would be the RB20DET with the stock 5 speed manual gearbox from the R32 skyline. Gear ratio's are : 3.321-1.902-1.308-1.000-0.759
could you suggest some other RWD engines (stock turbo would be great)
You are correct about the larger engine not allowing other components such as AC etc not to fit in, therefore the RB or SR would be best, its quite compact compared to the 1JZ.
The Chassis and engine mounts would be re-done, not only to hold the weight effectively but also to improve the stiffness of the structure allowing for better handling. I'm quite an expert on Finite Element Analysis and would do the structural calculations keeping in mind the vibrational frequencies from the selected engine.
The wheel base of the car definitely needs to be extended (check out my other thread and sketched designs https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/d-i-y-projects/177497-project-datsun-120y-coupe-1974-a ) Will try to find an LSD but if not would use the 70's Mark 2 rear diff (its much wider), will flare the fenders and drop the height of the car as well.
The rear suspension is Leaf and would add another leaf or half maybe to make it stiffer compared to the stock one. Will lower it by buying aftermarket shackles for the rear, new dampers, new front springs, a stiffened sway bar..so on and so forth
Currently there is no motivation to turn it into a dragster, I'm just building something that would give me a thrill and a half everytime i put the pedal to metal. Need to build a drift machine while im at it...
