After lunch at a hotel near rest house, we went to bazar to get some food items for next day trip to lake. At

the far end of the bazar there was fresh water spring of drinkable water. And there was an old hanging bridge

which took us to other side of the river. There was no road on this side, only treacherous paths, corn fields and

naturally grown thick conifer forest. Clusters of old and new wooden houses were spread here and there. It was

a peaceful evening.

It was a beautiful cloudy morning on 13th july. After the early morning showers of rain stopped, we fetched our

bags and came in bazar. Hurriedly took breakfast in a small nearby hotel, and hired a jeep. The usual charges

for this 8-9 km ride were 3000 (one way) but driver agreed on 2.5k.

This ride covers about half of the 18 km distance to the lake.

The Ratti Gali Lake is a high altitude glacial lake which is located in Neelum Valley, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan at the

altitude of 12,130 feet (3,700 m). The lake is fed by the surrounding glacier waters of the mountains.

The lake is accessible from Dowarian by an unmetalled 19 kilometers (12 mi) road plus hiking trek through

breath-taking sites. Dowarian is the base camp to this lake.

This friendly jeep road soon turned in to a bumpy, bone crushing jeep killer track. Finally in about two hours we

reached where a medium sized glacier was blocking the road, the ride was over.

during this track we go from 5300 feet to 12100 feet, an ascent of about 6800 feet. more than half (4000 feet)

I think is covered in jeep ride and rest of 8-9 km on foot though still a long trek is relatively less steep and

easy.

We were greeted at the camp site by a young man who offered us water and prepared tea for us. This was camp of Mr. Abdul shakoor loon.
