New Battery Suggestion Needed

Hi All,

Car: Suzuki Cultus
Model: 2001
Battery: OSAKA(Dry) 44 amp/12 volts

This morning when I start my car on gas, it started as usual. After that I switched it to petrol, car engine shutdown and afterwards, I am unable to start the engine as it fail to ignite (sulf stopped work). I manage to start it with the help of some push (Dhakka), visited straight a battery shop. He inspected the battery After checking with the help of meter, he said its generating around 8 volts which are not up to the mark, and now its time to replace the battery. This battery was installed almost one year back. Is it really a problem with battery or some current leakage which drains battery after over night stop. The point which I am unable to understand is that I parked my car last night without any problem and in the morning, it reveals that its battery is dead/need to be changed. I never face this type of starting issue before.

Please somebody help me to understand how a battery can instantly in such condition that needs to be replaced.

Also I need suggestion from fellow members what type(liquid/dry) and brand of battery should I purchase this time......?

batteries are very unpredictable these days, if you want to buy dry go for some good brand like Hankook etc, i installed Hankook in my civic and AGS for liquid , liquid if maintained properly lasts longer then dry ones.

The easiest method to check the battery is by using a multimeter... A fully charged 12V car battery should have a voltage reading of 12.55 and above... 12.40 would mean a 75% charge. Once this is verified, have someone run the car while the multimeter is still connected and see how voltage behaves as the car is cranked up... If the battery voltage is going lower than a 9, it means it no longer possess enough potential difference to start the car and in that case, a battery will have to be replaced... I would still say that do get a second opinion from a battery shop or a car electrician.

Battery life is dependent on :

-- built : AGS, Exide and FBS are good batteries
-- Maintenance : keeping acid level between marks, apply grease on terminals
-- Charging and current : recommended AH battery be used wrt engine and other accessories in car, charging voltage is approx 14.5 volts, terminals should be tight and self-starter should be smooth working

Now check what is wrong with your car and get it rectified as normally a battery in car gives service for 4 years and more

pry open the cell caps, its got liquid electrolyte and IS NOT A TRUE DRY BATTERY, check the SG of the electrolyte, most probably its too high, balance it out and give it a slow charge, if it does not come alive - junk it and buy a proper fresh battery and put properly prepared fresh electrolyte before installing in the car.

@ Guru - the battery top plate in a Toyota Corolla GLI 2005 is wet. At night time drive when electric fans kick-in there is a visible flick in dash lights what could be reason, the battery shop checked the car and gave thumbs up for generator & battery. Battery is 14 months old but managed properly Please guide.

check the voltage when that happens, clean out the ground cables too, I used to see that in "tap water" batteries mostly.

I have bad experience with volta and osaka. So, I suggest u never to buy osaka and volta. AGS, Exide and FB are the best.
