I guess toyota is waiting to price their cars after calculating the reaction of the rest of the car makers with respect to the increase in taxes. Its all a game of wait!

I went to toyota faisalabad to collect my Altis damaged in bomb blast, and asked top manager about 1.6.

He said launch is Mid of April and price will be same or higher than current 1.8 models. I asked him who will buy with same price, he said there are some big changes in interior, when I asked only expensive things they can offer more airbags and climate control. He said no these are not coming. He has no anwser or hiding to disclose what changes will be in interior.

We are thinking to replace current 1.8 with up coming 1.6. They also told us, they are setting up car exchange office (which was underconstruction), so toyota customer can sell and buy their cars under one roof.

I am hopeless from them...from about a month; they dont have anything to sell for > 1.3L customers. I have selected https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/member-opinions-suggestions/161352-honda-civic-ivtec-m-t which I will Insha-Allah be booking in start of April. Good news that it will come within a week. It will be 1.8L; the latest engines with better hp; much better A/C for coming up summer and more warranty period.

Indus need to learn something about the importance of time to market and should stop this "own business" that they do partnering with their dealers. They need to realize that they have lost 1.8L Game to Civic because its totally different market segment. If they keep the same price tags as their 1.8L Altis had; it will also be flop. Had 2 Million in pocket. Still went for top of the line 8Gen Civic for the second time since I donnot trust toyota with even their new addition.

Similarly, my uncle had 1.5 Million. Got him a 2007 Top of the line Oriel Pros about 50K driven an year back and he is more then happy now.

Now I know that you can't expect anything worthwhile from Indus motors. The 1.6 will be a bigger flop than the 1.8 for sure. I was waiting it out to see if an affordable 1.6 with good options would come but at the price of a Civic, no way in hell would I even touch a Corolla with a 1.6.

Time to buy another new Civic I suppose.

More important thing will be parts availability; if its M/T I think you dont have to worry much; but if its Cruisetronic; VVTI / 4-Speed Cruisetronic have been here recently and its getting replaced with dual VVTI / 5-Speed Cruisetronic; there must be parts difference. There will be a big question mark on parts availability and availability of good technicians after a while. If Cruisetronic; should replace it in next 1-2 years!!

Someone claimed 1.6 is going to be ZR engine; and someone else also mentioned that Cruisetronic will be 5 speed and M/T will be 6 speed...Toyota ZR engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia confirms this too!

Seriously the only thing wronger than being a Honda fan is being an oblivious loon (all pun intended). The Altis 1.8 Cruisetronic has anything but a poor resale factor (Check the market for new model (2009-10) cars top of the line models which will guide you about pricing for these cars) . The Corolla is a market leader in the global sedan segment in general and Pakistan in particular. With regards to the 1.6 Altis, the badge (TOYOTA) allows them to charge premium pricing (i.e. pricing in accordance with Honda Civic) especially as the engine is going to be a state of the art platform as well as certain other expected technological advancements.

There's no guarantee that Indus will give the same transmission as the one given internationally, engines are not dependent on particular transmissions, moreover there is no guarantee at all that this is a ZR series engine either.

+1; but Indus is not smart enough to make their own engine; they are dependent on Thailand for parts and engineering...Current VVTI line is abandoned since long; and only this factor is making them release dual VVTI here. Interestingly; 1ZRFE is DOHC and Civic's 1.8L iVTEC is SOHC!

It has always been the same since more than 15 years. Each corolla variant starting from 1.6GLI back in 1995 has been DOHC while every single Honda engine starting from 1996 VTi has been SOHC
